Hello everyone:

I am not new to Graybeard's but have not been an active poster. However I do have a question that
I need help with.

I just purchased a Thompson Center Triumph and believe I will be happy with it. So far I have fired
it 9 times with 100 gr. of 777 and the 250 gr. shockwave and this load shows good promise. My
problem is that it is very hard to load even in a clean barrel. It is so hard to load that I am afraid to
use it for hunting purposes. I am afraid that getting the second load down the dirty barrel might be
too difficult for field use.

I am looking for a reccomendation for a bullet that will be easier to load and accurate for hunting use.
Also, I love to punch paper as well and would like to find a bullet that is cheaper to shoot. Any help
on this would be appreciated.

I have the same gun and have had the same problem on reloading after firing with sabot bullets, by the third shot it is very hard to reload. (This is my opinion )that the sabot bullets leave too much plastic in the barrel and on doing some research I have switched over to the power point which do not tend to leave as much plastic and they are a true 50 cal where the sabot is 45 cal and the plastic sleeve makes up the difference to make it 50 cal. I have been using pyrodex powder but have changed to triple 7 but what I see on the forum that the buckhorn powder is much cleaner burning and not as much cleaning required. I know that in cleaning after firing about 5 shots with sabot bullets that I have to wire brush and take a lot of effort to get the barrel clean and shinny again. One other thing that may be the problem is that after firing and reloading with the barrel still warm that the plastics may wont to drag a little,as i said just my opinion.

A you wiping the bore between shots with a cleaning patch very slightly dampened with Windex?

Fairly common problem with T/C guns. You need the ez-glide sabots or to call MMP or Harvestor directly and ask for slightly smaller sabots. It takes a hammer to pound the 250gr down my Omega barrel with the supplied sabots.

Are you using the yellow color sabot super glide shockewave or the Black sabot standard shockwave? If not using yellow super glide give them a try!

I am using the black standard shockwave, cleaning between each shot and giving the barrel time to cool
between shots. The hard loading started with the very first shot.

In my opinion the bullet sabot combo is just too large for the bore. I have been shooting conventional
black powder guns (rifle, pistol and shotgun) for 35 years and have never had this problem. Inlines
are a new experience for me.

Try some Harvestor Crush Ribs or the 3 petal MMP's. Both load very easy in my Omega, and the crush ribs shot well with the PT bullet.

Thanks for the help guys. I will try some of the crush ribs and MMP if I can locate some as DennyRoark suggested.

Now if I can just find some economical bullets to use for plinking and paper punching. I wonder what results cast 45 cal bullets for handgun use would give.
I guess I won't know until I try.

The T/C Cheap Shots work great in my guns. I'm not sure if they'll work in your's. I also shoot patched round balls in my inlines with good sucess.

If you call ask for Connie she knows what you need for that T/C with the tight bore.

There are a lot of good bullets out there you can get in bulk. I like Speer Gold dots in 300 gr. They are a bonded bullet, at a great price. Buy them from a local reloading shop to save on shipping cost.

I have an omega and even with a hammer I couldn't get the sabots down. I switched to 295 gr power belts and they go down like butter-they are super accurate. I know people say they don't have good stopping power but the most any deer ran was 50 yards. I use 2 777 pellets.

If you can get some Black Horn 209 powder. Unbelieveably clean burning and cleans up with regular smokeless powder solvents. You may want to wet the barrel with kano-kroil and give give it a JB bore paste treatment. I have the same rifle and found that 110grs. of Black Horn 209 and a 300gr. Shockwave shot very well, better then the 250's. It is also my understanding that if you switch between the black sabot and the e-z load yellows you might experience a slight change in point of impact.

Try the dead center sabots from Precision Rifle, they are very easy to load and very accurate.

Sorry about taking so long to get back to you but I have had major computer problems and have been off line for about three weeks.
I finally wound up with a new computer and a a new provider.

Anyway, I am back.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. What I am working with now is as follows: 250 grain shockwave, crush rib sabot and 100 grains by
volume of loose 777. This load is being fired from a dirty bore. This is a easy combination to load and is printing groups at 25 yards
of 1/2 inch or less.

I can't wait to try longer ranges.

Those Powerbelts are nice frangible bullets.

The bullets you refer to are called FrangibleBullets. It's too bad I can't ask the deer I brought down with them whether they were any good.

I have an encore which loaded very hard also. I switched to the green harvestor crush rib sabots and a 250 grain 44 caliber (429) bullet I mold myself. It is a lee mold. Anyway they load verynicely now even using the dreaded triple 7 loose powder. They also send deer to the ground in a hurry. Much cheaper especially since I have been molding for years and have all the stufff I needed. T/c cheap shots are also pure lead and arent too bad priced.

I like the Cheap Shots, and I've been using them for years. They are a very tight fit in my Omega.

The first inline I bought was an Omega when they first came out. I went through all the hard loading that seems to be common with T/C rifles. I finally did the JB bore paste routine with about 400 passes using new paste every 100. (one up and one down stroke is only counted as one). Mine will finally load some sabots but now that there are a lot more available it is easier to find some that work. My Omega will not shoot any conicals other than Powerbelts with any consistency. With all the other rifles I have, (White, Knight KRB, and CVA Elite to name a few) this is not a problem. Also my Omega does not like Tripple Seven powder as the crud ring is terrible in mine even with all the "fixes" of primers and bore treatment. My Omega has become a gun safe Queen due to the problems as well as needing bedding due to the wimpy synthetic stock that makes the POI change drastically if not installed exactly the same each time. I know people love their Omegas but I am one that is happier with the competition. Hope yours does not give you the same problems mine did.

Hi all, I'm also new to the forum and I also just bought a T/C Triumph rifle in which I have not even fired yet. This is my first black powder rifle.

I have been reading allot lately about the 250 grain shockwave bullet and the black sabot's that come with them being super hard to load. This is the combo that came with my rifle. Why the heck is T/C selling this bullet / sabot combo. if so many people are having trouble with it ? Is there something we are missing ?

Get the Shockwaves in the Superglide yellow sabots. They'll go right down. T/C's inlines have tighter bores than most inline muzzleloaders.

As with all inlines, swab between every shot with a Windex patch unless you are using Blackhorn 209.

Unfortunately the marketing people at large companies some times do not have a clue as to what they are selling. I suspect if you check with the T/C technicians (if you can find any left since they have been bought out) they would let you know that it is a marketing thing. I have always been upset by the bullet sabot thing but at least now there are more available. When I first got my Omega the selection was not so good.

When I bought my Remington 700MLS and my SS Knight Disc Elite, I polished both bores using Flitz. It made them both very shiny and slick....easy to load and easy to clean. They are both sub MOA rifles with the 200 grain Shockwaves and Triple Seven 2f.

Boy talk about a widespread problem! I've got still another solution for you. My Omega was also terrible. I couldn't beat anything down the barrel. I called TC and they told me to shoot a box of Maxiballs through it. Load, shoot a stump, etc., etc...I thought they were nuts but I did it anyway. Dogged if it didn't work. I shoot all Hornady XTP bullets with MMP sabots. The .452s are still tight. I now shoot a .451, 240gr. XTP with an EZ load MMP. Great fit and great accuracy. Why do they make them that tight? It does seem ridiculous to make a gun and send a five bullet pack with it that can't be hammered down the bore. Oh well...Great gun anyway. God Bless.

Had my triumph out the other day and loading was not a problem at all. I was using the 250 grain shockwaves with the black sabots along with BH209 powder. I would even shoot 3 shots before swabbing the barrel. No issues loading at all.

Interesting? That would make it different from everyone else's T/C.

I'll stick with my Remington 700ML & my Knight MK-85. They were cheap, and they are highly accurate with almost anything you put down the barrel.

I have bad shoulders from arthritis and thought I might have trouble with this gun. Took it to the range and to my suprise, no trouble at all. Don't know why but hey, I'm happy with it
