Good Christmas Gift ideas for your wife?
« on: December 15, 2008, 04:05:21 PM »
For some crazy reason my wife just doesn't get excited about target pistols, hunting handguns, shotguns, or fishing tackle. But golly gee, if it has anything to do with good fabric she gets really excited. Oh well, wives have to be somewhat mysterious.

Anyway, the following are a few gifts that have gone over well in previous years. Maybe if you share your good ideas we can all serve our wives a bit better this holiday season.

1) Finely woven bed sheets (they are measured in weaves per inch, and the higher the number the better.) I have to admit they feel good too.

2) High quality towels.

3) A good terry cloth bathrobe

4) Really fine comfortable socks like SmartWool brand.

5) A good quality flashlight (like one of the new multi-LED jobs from Cabelas -- now your talkin' my langauge)

6) Rotary electric toothbrushes like the ones Crest sells for under $10. Very nice, really.

7) DVDs of romantic comedies (Like Doris Day and Rock Hudson movies)

8) New carpet

Interestingly the favorite gifts have been quite inexpensive (except for the carpet.) Of course this doesn't make her "cheap to keep". She'll say something like "we need a new washer and dryer" or "I need a new car" as if she expects me to dig in my pocket for change to pay for it.

I've narrowed it down, just in time for Christmas:

I know I'm getting mine a bottle of aspirin...Every night I pop two of them in her mouth.  She'll spit em out and say, "What's the H%ll is that for? I don't have a headache..."  I'll say, " good, let's get  excited together."

See, it's the gift that keeps on giving every night....

Neither my wife or I have exchanged gifts in about 7 years. We just make sure our daughter has a good Christmas. To us that is the most inportant. Dale

I might just get her a little something this year. Nothing big but I am sure she expects nothing so it will be a suprise. Dale

Just to let you guys know I am not as cheap as I sound. There were several years there I bought expensive jewelery for her. Let just say one year I bought her a diamond necklace that I could have bought 2 Remington rifles for. Dale

Wow... I guess I got it good.

I can shop for my wife in the Craftsman catalog, Bass Pro Shops catalog or most gun stores.  She'd love a new chain saw.  A custom saddle would guarantee marital bliss for a while.  A four-wheeler would be crazy cool for her.  A small framed CAS revolver of some type would be great too.  She's okay with jewelry but it doesn't really turn her on.  A new dining room suite would make her happy too.  Unfortuneately, on one income with four kids, she'll probably get something small this year... sucks but that's the way it is.

The best possible gift to anyone who has kids is a day off!  With the hustle and bustle of Christmas a perfect gift to your wife would best be given the day after Christmas.  Take care of the kids, do some lite cleaning, cook, and just let her relax all day.  It is a very cheap gift all it cost is your time! HINT HINT! WINK WINK!  ;) :-*

My wife let me buy a new custom built sea kayak for my Christmas present.  I found out that I bought her a diamond bracelet.  See how that works.

Heather:

Yes, you are right. That should go without saying but some guys just don't get it. We build that into our weekends, and have for as long as we've been married. Good idea! Giving time to people is often the best thing, and is almost always important and valued.

I think I'll talk to the shift manager at her second (night) job and see if I can arrange a night off for her so she can go Christmas shopping for me.
On second thought,, I better not, she might spend too much money.
I'll just load the dishwasher for her one day.

Heather, I do all that now. She doesn't care for jewlery. But she likes to shoot. I think I'll get her a brand new gun. Just because it's shiny, maybe a Marlin 1894SS in .44. I'll even be a nice husband and cast up a bunch of shiney new bullets, and load them for her. I'll even go so far as to sight it in for her. Ain't I a nice guy!! gypsyman

I guess I'm lucky, I don't have a wife anymore but if I did I'm sure she would want me to have something nice. Think I'll go shopping for myself some goodies. ;)

My wife is somewhat exceptional in that she doesn't care much for jewelry. If I were to buy her jewelry again, I'd find something that fits her sense of style, looks real, and is made of non-precious materials, and then find out how much something comparable and real costs, then give her the fake and the difference in an investment. She'd respond to that well, I think. My reasoning is that jewelry is worth so little compared to its new price that you're not really giving something of value in most cases. It's pathetic to see an old woman at a jeweler learning that a piece of jewelry she needs to sell to augment her income is nearly worthless.
