Revisiting loads for the New Model Vaquero in the .45 Colt
« on: December 17, 2008, 04:27:12 AM »
My 25yr old Son-in-law will be recieving one of these for CHRISTmas and it will be his first centerfire handgun. He is going to be much more than happy with it as he greatly enjoys shooting my old model with either the plinking or hunting loads. I know that we all basically agreed that the New model was stronger than the Colt or its clone but weaker than the old model. I know that at 25yrs old he is going to want a fair amount of the healthy loads but I may need to reign him in (at least if he goes with me) on the stout stuff.

I am thinking 1,100fps for the 250gr loadings or 900fps for the 300gr bullets as being very healthy indeed for this new model.
Your Thoughts On This Are Appreciated.

8.0 grains of Unique and 245 grain bullet are all that you need.  You can hotrod with 2400, but dead is dead IMHO.
