Mossberg 500 chambered for 3 1/2 in 12 ga????
« on: December 17, 2008, 11:35:09 AM »
I found a Mossy 500 12 ga shotgun barrel advertised supposedly with a 3.5 inch chamber.  I thought 500's had a max of the 3 inch shells.  The guy insists its for a 500 and not the 835 or whatever the big shotgun model is.

I can't go look at this barrel so I'm seeking some comments - is there something funky here or could it really be a 3.5 in chambered 500 barrel?

thanks

If the advertiser has email have him send a picture with the barrel stamp on it.   It should say the  model, gauge and shell length on it.

good point.  Maybe I should check with Mossberg too. I don't want to buy a barrel that isn't right.

My guess it that if it is chambered for 3.5", it would probably be a Mossberg 535 (appearance is quite close to that of the 500). Go to Mossberg's website and you'll be able to see all of the models and chamberings.

I spent some time on the Mossberg website and I'm pretty sure the barrel offered is for an 835 - the magazine loop appears to match the style of the 835 while the bbls on the 535 have the same loop / cap arrangement of the 500.  The seller doesn't seem interested - sure hope no one gets messed up with the wrong barrel but I won't be buying.

I did email Mossberg but no answer so far.

Rats, I have been keeping an eye out for a 24 inch bbl with screw in chokes to set up for turkey hunting - for less than what Midway wants.
Thanks for the help folks.
