Marlin MLS 50 muzzleloader

I have an opportunity to buy a used Marlin MLS 50. Does anyone have any experience , good or bad with them? I know its an old model, but I was hoping for some input from people that might have one or had one.

The MLS-50 is basically a T/C Black Diamond. It was made by T/C for Marlin. It has an ambidextrous cocking lever that can be inserted from either side. They never really caught on, but appear to be a very nice rifle, and can probably be found at a good price.

What kind of price are they asking? I wouldn't go too high, lots of new rifles out there at really good prices right now.

Person is asking $100 for it. Its in good shape, in fact I can't find anything wrong with it.  I like the idea of the straight pull action rather than the new break actions or bolt actions. Of course cosmetic condition is no indication of how well it shoots. Even if its not a tack driver, it will probably be accurate enough for hunting.

I just did a search on TC Black Diamonds. They sure are nice looking rifles. Questions, Is the trigger guard on the synthetic Black Diamond integral with the stock (non-removable)?   Do the Black Diamond have the QLA muzzle system (recessed rifling) like some other TC rifles?

GRAB THE MARLIN! MY buddy has one and its a superb rifle. The tang safety is a unique and very practical twist.If T/C made them for Marlin , they would've bee smart to put that safety on the Black Diamonds. That being said , the Black Diamond is a great rifle.I love my Walnut/blued XR .50 and its extremely accurate and reliable.The QLA feature is like alot of things, folks swear by them or at them. Personally I like them as it adds a measure of protection to the actual crown and as my Black Diamond XR is a tight load , it makes that operation easier.I talked to a fella at T/C last week and he told me the Black Diamonds have been discontinued so grab one while you can.Dont worry about plunger fired inlines. The are fine rifles and if you can afford only one they are the one's to have. There are some states that do not allow closed breech or 209 fired inlines , so if you go for a break open or drop block...Anyway, assuming the Marlin is rust free its good but you couldnt go far wrong with either.

For $5 I will inspect it thouroughly and shoot it a couple hundred times just to make you feel at ease about your purchase...All in the interest of safety of course ;)

I looked at them a lot when they were new and kicked myself a couple dozen times since for not "pulling the trigger" on one so to speak. Seem very well built.

Took delivery of the MLS 50. What a high quality arm. Nearly everything is stainless steel. It has a very substantial trigger mechanism. Its a nice light compact rifle that hangs nice in you hands with most weight forward. Its a well made plastic stock, only thing is it has a hollow sound when you tap the buttstock. Very nicely polished bore. I can't understand why this gun didn't really take off when it first came out.

Congratulations mcgiiver!

If you don't like that hollow sounding stock, remove the pad and fill the stock with that packing foam. That will quiet it down and make it feel more solid. Good luck with your new rifle.
