Bill,

You know me!  I got 3 of em and really like them.  2 K31's in 7.5 Swiss and one K11 converted to .308.  SWEET shooters.  The straight pull is neat and you REALLY can't beat a Swiss for quality...you thought your Swedes were nice????

Get a couple and then pick up some Wolf Gold in 7.5 as it is reloadable brass.  Load light on a Swis though as not as "safety conscious" as the Mausers.  I can send you load info on the Swiss some one sent me.

I picked one up through Allan's Armory earlier in the year.  Don't think he's got any right now though.  I like it, but do wish the buttstock's on these rifles were in better shape.  After seeing what type of footwear the troops wore, I better understand why they are in the shape they are.

They are great rifles, as you can tell by my handle.  I have seven of them and also a 96/11 that the barrel was shortened to 24".  Get one, you won't be disappointed.  Quality of the workmanship is second to none.  Just be aware once you get the first, there will be more to come.  The surplus GP-11 ammo is match grade.  Get one soon as the dealer supply seems to be getting low and prices are continually on the rise.  Classicarms.us has some, so does Wideners.com, fgsfirearms.com and cogunsales.com.  Right now they seem to be going for $200-$250 and higher for one in excellent condition.  I bought a couple of clearance ones from Aim a 2-3 years ago for $70 and the stocks are some of the best ones I have.  Go to www.swissrifles.com and find anything you want to know about them.

mrbigtexan, go to grafs.com, they have the clamp-on and drill and tap mounts along with the other accessories from St. Maries.  Here's the link http://www.grafs.com/vendor/735, brownells also has the St. Marie products.

First lets say i stashed away a few in the blackhole in my safe.  After having them for 4 years now i wanted to play with one of them. I just got the urge to try one out. I been planning on mounting a scope on one.

Ok your thinking about what i'm up to now right?  I hate using the word "sniper" so lets say i want to build a very accurate long range rifle.  I'm thinking the swiss k31 platform is the best one to use.  With it having the swiss watch quality in a straight pull bolt and its unmatched in accuracy i think its my best choice?

You can make use of the quality swiss match grade GP11  7,5mm surplus ammo.

www.grafs.com has the Stmarie scopemounts.  I purchased the stmarie drill & tap scopemount.

I just bought one of the K11 with a serial number 48,721 on it. all matching numbers. BUT the owner cut down the stock. I am going to find a replacement stock for it someday and put the old girl back. I just need some ammo or brass to get started with.

I paid $150 out the door for it.

Stolivar, go to www.swissrifles.com and email Guisan about the stock for the K11.  I asked him a few weeks ago about one and he said he had one and would be just over $100, including shipping.  There is one on another board that I was looking at, that was very heavily modified and I thought about making it as original as possible.

On a sad note the swiss GP11 ammo is drying up again as we speak.  I been watching each dealer runout of it.  I hope its just spotty shortages.

Few years back ran into a hunter in a remote area.  The guy looked like he was down on his luck.  His truck was beat up, and when he pulled his rifle out the appearance was unbelievable.  The stock behind the trigger guard was duct taped, and the barrel was duct taped to the foreend in two locations.

But I spent some time discussing his rifle with him because it was Swiss 7.5x55.  When I was a youngster and looking at the different Mil-Surp rifles I thought it was the best option.

While the stock was in sad shape the metal work appeared to be in much better condition.  The owner claimed it did not leak gas, fired cases looked good, and he said it was accurate.  The year before he had killed five bucks with it.  He took the deer to friends in a mill town fifty miles away who tagged them.  Without a doubt this guy was a poacher.

Admittedly I profiled this guy as a druggee.  He was skinny, he did not have a camp per say, just a fire ring, a his badly beat up pickup, and an open can of beans and a spoon.

I was interested his rifle because it was a Swiss 7.5x55.

A short distance down the road my partner spoke up and made a statement, "We are not going to invite that guy to dinner."  In the past we have invited hunters to share coffee and a meal in our camp.

Early the next morning we heard one shot up towards the guy's camp.  Later that day when we returned to camp he came down and asked us if we wanted a forkee.  The answer was no!

That evening he returned to say he was rather discussed because nobody in town would take his deer.

I tell this story to point out just how tough these rifles are under adverse conditions.  This guys belongings live a hard life, but with duct tape patches the rifle still held hunting accuracy.  He was still able to make a neck shot on a deer.

In my LEO days I never seen a druggee firearm with so much duct tape on it.

I am not sure but I tossed a Cheaper then Dirt ad into the recycle last week.  They were offering a deal on 7.5 Swiss ammo.

Three seems to be a popular number!  I almost bought 10 when they were $89 each.....still kicking myself!!  Back in the day I paid the same price as two rifles for the bayonet!

I have one of these and it is in great shape and accuracy matches its looks. The K-31, unlike the earlier models has 2 front locking lugs and will stand the same pressures as the .308 Win. + more capacity= more power. Don't worry about berdan primers or expensive brass. Run .284 Win. brass through a set of 7.5x55 full-length dies, trim and load. All you have to do from then on is neck-size.

I believe Graffs 7.5x55 is a little higher than standard .284 Brass from other sources. That is why I use .284 brass, that and I have another rifle in that caliber so can buy in volume a little cheaper. I just looked at the specs in "Cartridges of the World" one day and spec'd a couple of actual cases, ran one through the 7.5 die and it worked great.

i just buy wolf gold or privi ( i think they make wolf gold) ammo and shoot it for the brass , not quite as acurate as gp 11 but good enough and relatively inexpensive . aim surplus usually carries privi for a good price

If 1/2" groups scoped @ 100 yds. doesn't interest you then stay away from them.  Follow the accurizing tips on swissrifles and you will not be disappointed.
Scope mounts are available from Brownells.  But you need to be careful with scope position or shells may hot the adjustment knobs and flop back into the receiver.  Not a major drawback just requires a little care at installation.  By the way, kills deer as good as any 30 cal centerfire out there.
This is the day the Lord has made.  I choose to rejoice and be glad in it.

If your empties are hitting the scope adjustment knobs and are dropping back into the action, then rotate your scope 90 degrees to the left so that your windage adjustment knob is at the top and your elevation adjustment knob is on the left, and use the elevation knob for windage adjustments and the windage knob for elevation adjustments.

Used to have to do this with the top-eject 30-30s on accounta they had the same problem.....  HTH.  Mikey.

It IS a .30 cal...308". Powerwise the modern 7.5x55 falls between the .308 Win. and the .30-06. Mine is very accurate even with iron sights. I love it.

I have the St.Marie swiss drill/tap scopemount and its offset to the left I guess for the shell ejection.

My next question is about the barrel muzzle buffer and the muzzle brakes. They suggest the muzzle buffer for using the heavier bullets because of the barrel harmonics.  Its suppose to improve the accuracy with shooting the heavier bullets. Is this true or false?
Now which muzzle brake the bolt on or thread on?  I guess the muzzle brake solves both problems of barrel harmonics and a muzzle brake at the sametime?

Anyone here tried the "clamp on" scope mount from Brownell's for about $65? I was wondering if it holds zero well. Also, it says it is a 3/8" mount and would have to get an adapter for regular rings. I wonder if all that together would be stable and not shift. The rifle I have looks so good I'd hate to ruin collector value by drilling and tapping it.

i have the clamp on type mount , it works very well , even with the 3/8 scope mounts . only problem is your brass will contact your scope tube on ejection .

I mounted a clamp on scout scopemount on my K31. I had a cheapie scout scope laying around and I get 3 shot 1/2" groups with my K-31 at 100 yds.

First:  This is a great gun, looks kind of strange but that is another reason it is cool.
2nd:   Do not even think of converting to .308.  It would be a waste.  7.5 Swiss hits like Thor's hammer.
3rd.    Get the St. Marie side mount in STEELE (this is a clamp on, very easy and tight)  and then get STEELE 3/8 rings from Warne.

I have 2 and was thinking of getting the scout setup so that is an option also.

I have a side mount with old 3x Weaver.  Great trigger, great engineering.
