Wrong diameter
« on: December 19, 2008, 05:14:10 AM »
Bought 300 Sierra 40 gr. sp bullets to load for my Hornet.  Got em' home and realized they were .223 not 224 diameter.  Anyone with an older Hornet that can use these?

A couple of years ago, I had a box of Speer bullets that were .223 diameter and I loaded them in my 221 Rem Fireball and I got less than MOA groups with them.

You might like the results you get with them!

Any possibility of taking the unopened ones back and trading them? I don't do it very often but I swap a few things at my local shop with NP.

Do like CW said and try a box first , you may be surprised at just how well they shoot , both my 223 Rem as well as my 224GNR do very well with them from a .224 bore and a 1 in 12 twist .

Thanks guys.  I may just load 'em up if nobody wants them.  Got 'em at a gun show so taking them back won't work  a little off topic, but does anyone know if the bore diameter on a ruger mini 30 is .308 or .310?

They made both a .308 as well as a .310 so you will need to slug the bore to be 100% sure .

Good to know, I always thought that they were all .308.  I guess you do learn something everyday.  Mine is .257 (Gramps made it for me).LAZER
