TC Contender Barrel

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site...

I have several barrels like the one pictured. It's marked TC Custom Shop. The barrel length is 18 1/4" as shown. The muzzle brake appears to be the screw-on type and it will not come off (I've tried). Is the barrel legal to put on a carbine stock?

With the barrel and rifle stock the overall length is 32".

Did TC makes these barrels? Were they intended to be rifle barrels?

Yes, you can put your 18" barrel on a rifle stock. You can not put a barrel less than 16 1/4" on a rifle stock. By your picture it looks like someones added a 4" plus break assembly to a super 14 to make it longer than 16 1/4" where they could legally put it on a rifle stock. All Break assembles that are make to exceed this 16 1/4" must not be-able to be taken off.  Hope this helps.

From what I can see, through the end of the muzzle brake, the threaded portion of the barrel is 15 1/2" to the end of the actual barrel. With the muzzle brake, it's 18"+.

Do you know if TC made these?

they made the barrel, but the extension was probably done by a good gunsmith.  What chambering is that barrel?

   TC Custom shop is an extension of TC. Since they are at the factory, they can make any barrel caliber and configuration. You just tell them what you want, order it, and wait the 10-14 weeks lead time for a fully custom barrel. They do nice work. The barrel was undoubtedly made for a particular application and ordered by an individual.

  Have some of these Custom Shop barrels, they're nice.

I have a 222 Rem, 30 Carb, and 30 Herret.

Do you know what constitutes non removable? Will red or blue loctite be acceptable?

  Check your barrel lug for a date of manufacture and initials, you could call TC and see if there are records on it. As far as how legal it would be, that's a matter of state laws. If you can't budge the brake then, I don't think I'd worry about getting it off.  You can't make a removable brake to be non-removable unless you send it to a custom barrel shop and then, they may not be able to help you.  This all hinges on how demanding the game warden is in your area anyway.

     If there's no way that the barrel is un-threading, then it may already be silver soldered, what then?

It is a matter of federal law.  I would ask TC how they attached the brake.  If it is welded or silver soldered you have no problem.

That does not look like any t/c break to me.  One way to long.  Never seen anything in the t/c custom shop that was over 1 1/4" and two the t/c breaks are ugly as sin unless you count the magna port option.

Federal law states 16" to be legal as a rifle, yes 16-1/4" keeps you 1/4" past the law, but you can rifle a 16" barrel.
