American stock for a Lux
« on: December 19, 2008, 01:08:59 PM »
I need to change my Lux stock for an American stock. I have a CZ 527 in 222. Does someone out there make a aftermarket for these? I have looked and cannot find any. My offer to swap one for another has not gotten any interest either.

Anybody?

A few months back I posted in this CZ section and the gunsmithing section trying
to get a stock for my CZ 550fs.  I E-mailed CZ twice and never got a reply; Brownells
and Midway tech. section could not offer an answer to my question.  Ramline, Choate,
HS Precision, Hogue said they don't make an aftermarket stock for the CZ 550 medium
action. Mcmillian does make a stock apx. $450 and a tech guy from Bell and Carlson
said that the CZ stock was so different that stocks they made for Mauser type rifles
could not be adjusted to fit the CZ. Brockman does make a stock for the larger CZ
rifle, so the answer is how do you get CZ to sell you the stock you want or pay for
a custom stock.

No problem Mogley. All it needs is a light sanding with high grit paper. I would recommend a spirit based stain from your local hardware store. Water based swells the grain and you have to sand a lot to get it back even. After the stain hit lightly with the high 000 steel wool. Next use birchwood casey clear sealer and filler for a clear coat. In between clear coats use 0000 steel wool lightly to create bonding surface. 12-24 hours after final coat hit vigorously with a cotton tee shirt for final polish. Let it sit a week or so before taking it out and about so it is hard enough to not loose the shiny finish.

JJ, this place makes stocks as good as Boyd's, just a bit higher. Just add $38 to the price of the style you want for them to cut the 550 action in.

Thanks for the info., I'm still wondering why CZ never answered me.
The stock I was thinking about would be a standard laminated but in
the shape of the HS Precision "hunter" model with LOP. of 13 3/8 th.
with a good recoil pad.
