S.S. Ultra Hunter 45/70?
« on: December 19, 2008, 02:17:58 PM »
I'd like to hear some opinions on this rifle. With the BC and Handis available in synthetic or wood stocks, is the Ultra S.S. 45/70 worth the extra dollars to anyone other than a collector? It sure is a purty rifle!

Tim,
It is a beautiful rifle. The barrel length also sets better with me than the longer barreled BC, at least for a scope mounted hunting rifle. Have you ever tried the DNZ Products (Ded-Nutz) scope mounts? They make a real solid scope mount system for my Tikka rifles and the silver finished Handi version would look great on this rifle.

No, I haven't, they only offer them in high and they cost as much as two or three sets of good rings, I only use medium and low rings.  ;)

That would be a handy 45-120 if you put a loong eye relief scope.  The guys who created the 12 GAFH like thumbhole stocks for handling recoil...maybe I should get a set for my BC...

I'd love it if the stock was ambidextrous!   :'(  Ohh well.  Maybe someday!
When an Army captain asked him for the direction of the line of retreat, Col Puller called his Tank Commander, gave them the Army position, and ordered: "If they start to pull back from that line, even one foot, I want you to open fire on them."
Turning to the captain, he replied "Does that answer your question?
We're here to fight."
