Went to the range this morning to cut grass. On the way out about 100 yards from the gate, saw some wild life.

Here's the Firing line.

Here's a view of the 100 yard mortar impact zone.

The wife and I did this, this morning. We will cut the 200 yard impact zone tomorrow.

Now should the grass not meet the indvidual cannoneer's personal standard I will have one of these available so they may correct the default.

Douglas,   You have not told us about all the rain you have had lately, otherwise how do you still have green grass out there.  Just so you know, we have green grass at 4,000 feet out here too about every six or seven years in July and early August.  We have had so much rain this spring and summer that the prairie is completely green and we are seeing cactus flowers way beyond the April-May period.  We may have to wait until Sunday to test the Beast, it is STILL raining, fours days now!

Range looks great!  I don't think we will require any further mowing or sything; our impact dust or mud will most likely clear the 10 or 12" unmowed grass.   :o :o  We will be arriving on Wednesday, so you can let us know what needs to be done and we will do it.  Saw some of those "under-the-fence-sliding" critters the last time we visited our high plain's range.  Beautiful!

Regards,

Tracy and Mike
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

Videos, whose going to have time, we be shooting!  Bring your camera and do it for us, we'll hold your camera while you shoot!   ;D

Got a box of magazines from the Artlleryman to give away, including their fancy new format Summer 2009 edition and some copies of Fall 2007 featuring our sponsor Seacoast Artillery. Mike and Tracy will grace us with their presence and latest creation.  It will be a pleasure to finally meet them...that is if when they set of Monstre it doesn't torch of the prairie. We all will running for cover if that happens.

The Brooks-USA Irishman is sending a box of cannons to put out for display and sale. Thanks for your support Mike.

Armorer77, Ed another of our sponsors will be with us and he is bring some product to show and sell.

Southpaw, retired gentleman farmer, gopher hunter and good friend has donated three of his swinging iron gopher targets as a door prize.  I'll have to figure out a way to give them away.

No, the rats and the bats don't want the company.

Weather is only supposed to be in the high 70's according to Accuweather.

Went out to the range this morning and set up the stands for the knock down targets.

This evening I built the cannon targets.  Tomorrow I will build George's 600 yard target. I'll have to build it here at the house and assemble it out in the field.

How about setting them up and the first one to hit it gets to keep it ........ and so on and so on.......

I WAS thinking small bore cannon.......  ::)  a BB mortar or the BEAST would do them in for sure.

Allen,

I don't think M&T do small.

I do have something in mind...in June at the Martini shoot we drew cards...I won both draws!  Hey, I like that idea, draw cards!

Fine looking piece of ordnance, 1Southpaw.
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Got the Small gun range laid out this morning.  30 yard Mortar impact zone in.  Grass cut to 25 yards.  Firing line cut down to lawn height and inspected for cactus...some one is cactus sensitive...no cactus found.

The farmer is turning all the CRP into grain field--they are discing the grass land under to dirt.  Wont' effect us to much.  In fact for How Far shoot it might help.  Any shot falling on the broken ground will kick up a cloud of dust.

Ernie she's looking good.  You will  have a golf ball gun to shoot also.  I made 8 quill for the golf ball shooter.

3/4 way across the country, to far to go, but watching all this is way exciting.

DD, I had to put lime out on the impact area of the range I take care of to make the EPA happy. Ya, I could have spread it, but instead I just pile up 56 bags of lime in the impact area. They got "spread" without any help from in in less than a week  ;) .

A few bags of pulverized lime would not only make an awesome mortar target when hit, but contribute to your soil pH correction  ;D

The jyd mortar looks interesting .....
With a plowed field will the orange balls be visible or in the dirt ?

Weather forcast from Canadian side shows it to be a cool cloudy day .... Just right for a Shoot !
