Sharps 1874 Rifle question
« on: December 21, 2008, 01:00:00 PM »
Howdy All,
I am looking for a Sharps 1874 Rifle kit for a winter project. I know IAB arms makes them but can't find a U.S. Distributor. Does anyone here have any ideas? Thanks for any help you can give me. Frank

Frank - don't know of any US Distributor for the IAB '74 Sharps Kit.  You may want to reconsider.  It does not have a stellar reputation ... http://www.shilohsharps.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=65068&highlight=&sid=9f2daf0ba9d3f7e832916523a3b8ec45

I went on this same hunt back in the summer.  The kit is a bad investment even if you can find one.  Tremendous an=moutn of work to produce a poor quality arm for almost the same cost as buying one (possibly more depending on the tools and equipment you already own).

Check dixie gun works. I believe that they were selling pedersoli sharps kits minus the barrel, but with the wood. Can't hurt to check. Frank

I wouldn't call the dixie Pedersoli action and fore arms a kit, the stocks and actions are fully finished.  You can get a barrel at The Possibles Shop and have it fitted by a smith.  Not sure you won't end up spending as much as just buying one direct unless you want to make a special configuration (like a 45-110 with a 34" barrel with a half octagonal barrell...sorry lost in a day dream there).

Any ideas on other brands as the Shilo and Pedersoli are a little too rich for my blood. Also forgot to mention that I want to be able to shoot smokeless powder in whatever I get. Is that possible. Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

Theoreticlly you could shoot smokeless in about any modern Sharps, if your looking for a low cost option check the Tri-Star at budsgunshop.com.
