AVERAGE H&RLife expectancy
« on: December 22, 2008, 03:20:51 AM »
I am new to these little rifles, and pick up a survivor 308 at the local pawn shop.I was also looking at getting a varmint 22-250 and was wondering about how many rounds that I can expect to shot through these guns before problems happen.Also what kinda accuracy can I expect with premium and hand loaded ammo?

Thank
Texas Boar ::)

Can't really help, ya, no one has really ever reported wearing one out, hammer springs weakened and have been replaced after 2500 rounds, sometimes sooner, but that's about it. They will loosen up at the hinge if they aren't lubed, but other than that, H&R replaces defective barrels for anyone that's had one that's loosened up at the hinge, H&R at Gardner replaced the barrel free no matter how old the rifle was, dunno if Remington will continue that tradition tho.

I use Tetra Gun Grease. I was told it was synthetic and use it on slide for s/a arms as well.

I used Tetra for a while but switched to Super Lube when I ran out cuz I had it, works great, but any grease that will stay put should work fine, others have used disc brake grease, white lithium, etc.

My .357 has 8 or 9000 round thru it. still shoots the same as the day I bought it. 1 1/2" @ 100yards, all I've done to it has been to polish the trigger group and lighten the pull, Followed the directions in the FAQs lot of good info in there, I have seven handies now and I like them all. 8)
