11 Things You Won't Learn In School
« on: December 22, 2008, 06:27:36 AM »
ELEVEN THINGS YOU WILL NOT LEARN IN SCHOOL

Love him or hate him, he sure hit the nail on the head with this!!
Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a high school about 11 things the students will not learn in school.
He talks about how Feel-Good, politically correct teachings are creating a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this is setting them up for failure in the real world.

1)   Life is NOT fair - Get used to it.

2)   The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself!

3)   You will NOT make $60,000 per year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you EARN both!

4)    If you think your teacher is tough - wait til you get a BOSS!

5)   Flipping burgers is NOT beneath your dignity! Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flippers. They called it OPPORTUNITY!

6)   If you mess up, it's NOT your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them!

7)   Before you were born, your parents were not as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents' generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

8-  Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT! In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they will give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life !!!

9)    Life is not divided into semesters. You DON'T get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND yourself. Do that on your OWN time !

10)  Television is NOT real life. In real life people have to actually LEAVE the coffee shop and go to JOBS !

11) Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THANK A TEACHER !
"Let us cross over the river and rest under the shade of the trees..."

That's a good one SBG. :D I especially liked number 7 above. I'm going to be using that one.

Beg to differ. Those were attributed to Bill Gates, but were actually the work of Charles Sykes. He has recently expanded on these with a new book worthy of your consideration:

At SUBWAY about 3 years ago, some girl was complaining about not getting her break.
I told the guy (she was telling this to) I've worked for many years.Sometimes I didn't get any breaks or lunches.
Plus, working 7 to 10 weeks straight with no time off.
I was a cannery mechanic.
After the season was over,I still had to go to work the following weeks.
Then,it was 5 days a week.

Yeah, I was about to say, if those words came out of Bill Gates' face, I'd be shocked.  Anyway, whoever said them, they should be required listening for all Chillins.

There is much wisdom in them regardless of who said them. Sadly the folks today who voted in our new prez are working hard to make them irrelavant and wrong. They seem to believe all should be changed. I really hate what's happening to our country.

before their Pres. is done. ???
Don't believe it said anywhere that Bill Gates wrote the words, just said he used them in a speech. I think we could learn something from Gates.

I've worked with children for over 35 years. To blame any political party for this attitude is foolish. There are many factors as to why children think as they do. The pres. or any political party has nothing to do with it. We complain about blaming and yet we are guilty of it .

Not really. Kids raised in dumcrap homes will be raised to think killing babies is birth control and gay marriage is acceptable, this is what the dems believe and the way they raise their kids. The dems have no morals or family values, look at their platform. Yes, political parties have a lot to do with it. POWDERMAN.  :( :(

I don't know what you mean by polarizing but look up the dem party platform and you will see that it mirrors much of what is wrong in America and the world today. It sickened me to see the kids at the dems convention, clapping and laughing because I knew they would grow up just like their parents, no morals or values, believing in gay marriage, and killing babies. Both are deadly sins. Yes, political parties do influence how kids think. POWDERMAN.  :( :( :( :( :( :(

Yup I have to agree but then ya gotta remember that JonnyC is one of those dumocraps we're talking about so he can't allow blame to fall on his chosen party which he fully supports in such matters. Yes Jonny I agree it's the parents actually to blame for how the kids turn out but they are in turn shaped by the views of the party they support and vice versa.

Eh... you wanna piss and moan about the democrats destroying our country...look what 8 years of the bush admin got us...

I saw a bumper sticket the other day from back when gas was 4 bucks a gallon... it read "When Bush first took office gas was $1.45"  I found it hard not to laugh at the fact that gas in my area of the country is once again $1.45 or lower...

I'm not a registered anything... and really i'm not that old (25).  A lot of people want to sit around and blame "teenagers" these days for being lazy, but look at the examples older people (their parents) have set for them.  I've been told to respect my elders, for the most part I try, but age doesn't breed wisdom i'm afraid.  I'm sure GB will agree that there are young, and old alike on this forum that prove on a daily basis that they don't have an ounce of common sense.

Yeah, a lot of teenie boppers are lazy, A lot of old folk's are lazy too... Give it a rest people... when you were young, old folks said you were lazy too....

I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

SSS. I was using the dems as an example of how political party's can, and do affect the minds and actions of the young.
Eight years of the Bush admin has kept America from being hit again by the Godless ones, has it not?? And no, not all kids are lazy, some are, just like grownups. The question was whether political parties affect the actions of the young. The answer of course, is YES. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Quote from: JonnyC
...any political party has nothing to do with it...

Gotta disagree with that JonnyC.  The parents of every child are, in general, affiliated with one or another political party.  Those intrinsic values (Democrat/Republican. Liberal/Conservative, etc.) are imparted to the children through the day-to-day homelife, the decisions therein made, conversations overheard, the products purchased, the TV shows watched, family interactions with outside parties, witnessed reactions to news and events, etc.  It is only later in life when a broader non-family cross-section of adult behavior and attitudes are encountered that the childhood values are tested and those found wanting are changed.

The Catholic Church is known for its "raise a child in the Catholic Church and they will be Catholic for life."  It is indoctrination, brain washing, guilt by association, whatever you may call it, but it is the fabric of life that is instilled in children not just "book learning".

That's true of almost any religion not only Catholic. Look at the Jewish religion, Greek Orthodox, the Amish and the Baptist .They all have a strong sense of their religion.

Don't put words in my mouth. I said I don't agree with all they believe in. According to your logic-If political parties are so influential to family values; than you are saying all the Republicans that voted for a Democrat for President  agree with the the Democratic party position on abortion and gay marriage.

johnyc. Nope, not at all. I believe a lot of folks voted for him cause he's black. I work  with several blacks, claim to be real Christians, they supported osama cause he's black. They overlook his unchristian behaviour and lack of morals and family values simply because he is black. I think he got a lot of white votes for the same reason. Now, we'll all suffer the next 4 years, if we still have a nation. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

I believe many voters were motivated more by their bank accounts than their moral convictions.  :( I personally know several 'Christians' some even church officers who voted for Obama because out of economic concerns for themselves and their loved ones.

Of coarse I have no idea what they think Obama will do to improve things.  Judging by his cabinet we are in for more of the same old, same old only worse.   Bigger government, bigger government programs, bigger spending and bigger tax bills for the working stiff.

Thats a long roundabout way to a short answer.  You can't say for sure that parents "instill" political ideas into their children.  Look at how many kids vote the opposite of their parents.  If you would read posts from time to time there are several who have become republicans, when their folks are staunch democrats.

My parents are staunch baptists and I can't stand the Baptist denomination.  So parents can "attempt" to make their kids think one way or another, but in the long run people develop their own views, As it should be.
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."
