Scope for Savage Model 24
« on: December 22, 2008, 12:06:39 PM »
I have a Savage with a .222 Remington rifle on top and a 3 1/2" 20 gauge on the bottom.  I'd like to mount a scope that would provide accuracy with the triple deuce and still allow quick shots with the 20 gauge.  I might have to go with see-through rings.  Any suggestions?

I have shot several flying birds with a rifle, I was using a regular hunting scope, like a 4X, put some leade on them just like they were running deer and knocked them down. They were farther out than a typical shotgun shot, 40 or 50 yards, but if you can do that with a 4X, I would think a person could look through a 1.5 or 2X scope and see his leade and whack flying critters. To bring out the potential of your triple2 I would mount something like a 1 to 5 variable. Mount it low over the bore so your eye is naturally aligned. You may have to be patient and let your bird get a little distance.

Makes me wish I had my 24V again. It was a 30-30 on top. I always just used the iron sights except to work up loads for the 30-30.
