Dunno, with Remington calling the shots, I'd say it's a possibility, but I think a 17 Fireball would be more likely. I still wouldn't bet on it happening though, best bet if you wanted one would be a barrel stub I would say. Billy

I wouldn't due to them being 1137 steel instead of 4140, throat erosion would be harsh on it I would think, spending $100 for a barrel that wouldn't last long isn't my idea of money well spent, which I suppose Handiholics aren't always well known for doing!!

I reamed a 17 HMR to 17 Rem earlier when they werer using the GM barrels made from 4041 steel. I had poor accuracy results with it and sold it off. Since then I have reamed some .17 barrels to .17 FB with good results, I have also stubbed some others to .17 barrels with good results. The 17 FB seems to be the best option, it is about 10,000 psi less than the 17 Remington and is a good fit for the Handi. I have a 17 Remington Savage 10 which is a great rifle, I also have a .17 Rem FB in a Handi that shoots great with .20 gr bullets. See picture from 100 yards below. Larry

17 HMR to 17Ackley Hornet? Any one tried this route? I have an extra barrel to try it on. Love my 22 Hornet Handi and think the 17 Hornet would be a lot of fun.

I was considering the 17 Hornet, but I cringe at paying $120+ for the dies. 17 FB dies are reasonable, so I might have that done in the future, but as Tim said, the barrel steel is still a bit of an unknown, but it would be interesting. Billy
