22-250 load for Encore
« on: December 22, 2008, 11:26:28 PM »
Have a new barrel for Encore and looking at starting load to work from. Have a supply of 52 grain Hornady bulletts and was thinking of using H380 at about 39.5 grains. Iwas wondering if anyone had a load with this bullet that had worked for them. Since each barrel is diffrent i know the charge and lenght will need tweaking but as I stated was looking for a proven load in another encore as right now I don,t have the powder anyway.
Thanks for the advice.

I get good results with a 60 grain Partition and 34 grains of Varget in my Encore pistol, and 36 grains of Varget with a 55 gr. Hornady. Haven't shot any lighter bullets.

With the same bullet, a Hornady 52 grain HPBT, I was using 38.5 grains of H380 and seating out to the lands, minus about .005 and all cases trimmed to minimum length. I had a 26" heavy barrel with an 8x32 BSA Platinum. I was cutting a ragged hole at 100 yards with letting the barrel stay cool. I had rubber faucet washers between the fore end and barrel and was shooting ground hogs at 600 yards plus. I couldn't use a bipod due to the pressure on the barrel and zeroed it with resting it on the frame and trigger guard. My Encore was a shooter and one of the first ones produced. Good Luck!!

;DSounds Good this was what I was looking for a load known to work in the encore. Any Idea what the heaviest bullet this barrel will shoot? I was told that it has a 1 in 10" twist so i was thinking a 55 grain is about max. for it to stabilize.
Thanks for the advise.

Yes, I had tried 60 and 68 grain bullets and they keyholed terribly. I also attempted to break the 4,000 fps mark with 45 grain bullets and they came apart. I was getting two and three torn holes in the target at 100 yards so they had to be breaking up. I was going to try some light solids but never got around to it. A trade came up on this forum and I let the Encore go. I sometimes wish I hadn't. Good Luck!!
