Buying guns to play with or is it an investment?
« on: December 23, 2008, 03:49:44 AM »
Its both!!!!!!!! :o

Have you seen the prices on action arms, gun broker or guns america lately?  Talk about sticker shock the gun prices on our toys are going crazy now.  I should of stayed away from the stock market and gone after the swede mausers for sure.  I wouldn't of lost so much money as i did with the 3 last recessions.  The prices on our surplups never goes down it always goes up.  Think about that its more of an investment that we can play with and in the end make money.  You can show your misses the guns for sale sights and they show her what they really cost you.  This will open up the door to get more...... ;D

Hey guys...in case you didn't know this 1911Crazy was the FIRST real Buddy I go ton a Gun Website......I offered to send him My Hakim to have him fix it and return......he graciously accpeted the offer.  However with his help and direction was able to fix er up myself (but 5 years later have a "new" issue")

Bill.......I recall you talking good about the 70's Yugo 8mm which was available and was $10 more per 900 round case.  I think it was about $59/900.  I publicly typed in WHY pay more when you can save $10 and buy more guns...more ammo...etc.

Turns out we were BOTH right.....you were MOST correct however as you told me to STOCK up on 8mm and stack it deep.  I did just that.  You have taught me well.......my mentor in a way.  I have enough 8mm "tucked away" to most likely last my lifetime and I'm 38!!!!!  Value??  400% increase in value, easily.  I bought about 15 cases of the Turk ammo and stripped the clips and bandos and sold on Ebay for about $5--$8 a piece (I paid $3.75 WITH ammo)  so in all technicality the ammo was Free???  Now sells for .20 a round easily....$14 a bando.
Investment???  Dang right it is!

Bill, I also still have a few items I got FROM you, I know one of them has since doubled in value and I do treat it as a member of the family.  The Romo SKS that is....I still regularly shoot the 59 Yugo.  I have the M tucked away as a future investment as well.

My collection has seriously increased BIGTIME in value.  So much so I should contact Collectinsure and let them know :)

I am in the insurance business and if you guys haven't insured PLEASE do.....collectinsure.com is a great deal...too bad I can't get paid for selling it :):)

Thanks for the kind words cbxboy.  I also have two of my mentors here too its Mikey and S.S.  These two are my partners in crime, no they helped me identify some of my surplups and guide me too.  Sooner or later we all need help here i'm sure.  I would rush home from a gun shop and post what i found and then i would get an answer right away in time so i rushed back to buy it.   Some of my finds were covered with dust from many years of hanging on the wall racks in the gun shops.  I can still remember one of my best finds, it was a '95 chilean 7mm mauser in excellent condition. Yup I still have it and its a safe queen now.  This began my run of the 7mm's they seemed to pop up all over the place.  It was funny because i figured i would never see any.  But like i said many times just stay browsing and sooner or later it will show up.  Now is the time to really start looking to keep an eye on things.  I think its between the pawn shops and gun shops now.  Its sad and i know someday we will do the samething perhaps but i caught an older collector trading his stuff in and i purchased some of it at the trade in price too.   Stupid me i passed on some of it because i didn't really know if i wanted it or not.  He had some awesome P17's and a nice looking '03 springfield too.  Well we can't change things now but i needed to think about what i wanted and what direction to go.  Now the prices on these are scary too.

On one of those sights there is a swede mauser for $1,000 i believe.  I knew these wouldn't stay around $225 to $325 for very long(M96's/M38's).  I've seen the FN49's between $750 to $1,700 in the past too.  I believe the 7mm vene was the most expensive one that was seen for sale.  The FN49 argentine in 7,65x53 is probably the most rare one. I guess as the supply continues to run out more we will see even higher prices.

Like S.S. warned me here a few years back, he said the surplus ammo would dryup first before the supply of the surplus guns would.  He was correct because soon after we talked about it here the 8mm mauser ammo was starting to dry up.  It was funny to see everything we talked about comming true soon after. Yup we will be talking about the good old days soon for sure.  We've seen the surplus ammo come and go now all in our lifetime, man that was short lived.   I never thought it would ever run out that fast I figured we had a few good years left yet.

BTW;  Merry Christmas and happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!

I find it rather odd that i see some mosins for sale on the net on the guns for sale sites that are around $200 lets face the mosins are still available from the wholesalers starting at;

1. Russian Mosin 91/30 round receiver  $69
2. Russian Mosin 91/30 hex receiver      $79
3. Russian Mosin 91/30 laminated stock  $89
4. Russian Mosin M38   rare                     $89
5. Russian Mosin M44 laminated stock  $99
6. Russian Mosin  M44                            $69

My point is at these prices your ahead already and your investment has begun right?

You can own and  touch a piece of history, shoot a piece of history and show it to your freinds plus the accuracy will give you bragging rights at the gun club or local range too.

Another  point is if your just thinking about getting into this hobby i wouldn't wait too much longer.  There are still plenty of mausers and mosins to play with at affordable prices too.  Heck you can still get an sks right now but who knows how much longer before there all gone and the rest is surplus military history.  If your still on the fence about doing this for just an investment of $30 to get your C&RFFL03 and get those mosins and your around $500 total investment.  Well to be honest its $524 for all the mosins plus your FFL03 C&R.   Thats a whole lotta fun for that little investment.  You don't get many guns for $500 nowadays.

Even with the yugo mausers there machined on the german machines too.  So your still getting the german quality at a yugo price.

Its time to get off the fence and let it fly........................... ;D

One of my predictions for the future is we will see the sks's hit the $1,000 mark soon.  When all the yugo sks's are completely gone.  The russian sks's were hitting $500 when the flood of yugo sks's hit our shores.  This has kept the prices down on all the other sks's for a while now. Just look at the other surplus military semi auto prices and were they are right now.  History does repeat itself ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ::)

I don't know about the SKS reaching 1,000.
I believe they will be made illegal to sell before they reach that price.
I firmly believe that next year, All ammunition that is currently imported
will cease to be brought in to this country. Foreign manufacturers
are not going to do all this serial number crap that is the current trend
from the anti-gun folks. In some states this will pass and become law.
Also, when these other countries start signing the U.N. treaties concerning
"Exporting Death", It will no longer be legal for them to export it anyway.
Stock up on reloading supplies as they too are about to become extremely
scarce. If these laws start passing, reloading will be made illegal also by the
serial number on the projectile not matching the S.N. on the case.
As I said a long time ago, the anti's would wise up someday and realize
that Guns were useless without ammo. Seems that time has come.

Whats going to happen to the ammo thats not numbered that we have?

Do you think this is in the preparation for whats coming in 2012?  There's a thing about marshal law going into effect soon too.  Were going to have the US Army patrolling our streets.

For the ones who don't know about 12-21-2012 just go to you tube and do a search for it.  Then search for planet x too.

the way the proposed laws I have read deal with existing ammo is that
there is a two year "grace period"
to dispose of unmarked ammo.

as for the troops on the street, go to the website below.

Do you think its to protect us against a terrorist attack with these sleeper cells that's already here just waiting.  I'm sure the next attack will cause a civil unrest.

If the government starts banning guns and the numbering ammo I'm sure there is going to be civil unrest in the streets before then. Our elected officials are trying very hard to make common criminals out of all gun owners. I can't see gun owners giving their rights away without fighting back. I would think the government would want armed citizens to help fight against another terrorist attack should it happen again.     Sorry for highjacking the thread. Just had to add a comment to this quote.

You are right. If the government decides that all ammo must be tagged then that means ALL projectiles. We won't even be able to shoot black powder or even a pellet gun. Something has got to give. I have been buying firearms before I turned 18 and many of them have sentimental value that can't be replaced. There is no way I would part with them.

get some bullet molds and stock up on lead!
If I sifted the soil at my shooting range, I would probably get all the lead
I will ever need ;) I already have access to about 200 pounds of it anyway.

breaks the Posse Comitatus or they can just end Posse Comitatus within the next few years. I have mine so they will just have to take them away from me. I think most of the arms are an investment for individual freedom and they are a reflection of our American Spirit, which is the fun part.

1911 you listen to late night radio like me!!!

Ok, I'll say this once---well probably more than that.

6" PVC pipe and end caps.  WE are all aware that if you seel up a PVC tube good and well it will be water resistant.  Then take a regular sucker sealer like for food and wrap ammo in 100 round quantity.  Drop in PVC pipe and seal.  Bury.

So can you realize how much freaking money I am going to have to spend on PVC pipe???  HOLY crap.

So IF 2012 is coming AND they(gubmint) have a come and get it attitude I have a spot picked out on public land to dig a hole.   THAT is my SHTF plan.

I currently have 2 rifles of lower value and 880 rounds already in mother earth.  I know where it is and nobody else does.  Sounds a little "black helicopter" but for the $100 total I have invested in all 3 items who cares??  I had access to a skid steer and wanted them 5-6 ft deep :):)

In ALL seriousnes if I feel their is a grab coming whether guns or ammo I am diggin holes and burying.

The good news is this option of grabbing guns is impossible.  The bannin gof ammo would similarly be "impossible" but scary as all get out as some whacko states may try this.

Gold has been the standard of currency for centuries. Not the US ,, though(1971) If memory serves.. a 100 dollar bill(IOU) only cost .5 cents to produce.. anyways ,, besides the econimic lesson.. Gold.... well someone has to have a use for it. Someone must want it! for what ever reason. Gold will probaly always be valuable. But just what is it worth without someone else with more, than you! willing to trade something you need! You can't eat it. Drink it! defending you hut with a gold club,, requires a well fed, muscle bound young man. The metal makes poor tools. Too soft except for butter knives and spoons.. Irony.. a silver spoon is far better!  However..Guns , Knives, Clubs, Knowledge. Faith , compassion,, are far more valuable. 2 ounces gold vrs. a good rifle..,, I'll take the rifle.
To play with a gun.. so to speak.. means proveing its function and accuracy,, while training you to use it. So both play and investment! Rolled into one. Buy a freeedom loving, good hearted young man or woman a good rifle and it will be an investment in freedom! and America>
