SRH 44 mag - Good Price?
« on: December 23, 2008, 10:06:43 AM »
I know where I can get a SRH 44 mag with a Trophy 2x6 scope for $575. It's not the latest version but not the old either - it has the rubber grip but not the newer finger grip style.  Seems to be tight and only lightly used though there's a little rust stain on the scope ring bolts. They had some SBH in 45 colt for $450 too that caught my eye  ;)

So - should I go for it or keep looking?

Thanks

I'm not familiar with the scope and wouldn't value it more than $50 on a used gun.  Do you think the gun is worth $525 without the scope?  I think you could better than $575 for the combo, but it's not a completely bad price either.  I would pass, but that's just me.  (I bought a used one for less than $450 once, and had to sell it for what I had in it later on.)

Yeah, it's a Bushnell scope - I see it recommended here quite a bit. Being used does spook me a tad....

There's nothing wrong with used stuff.  THe only problem is that you don't know how it was used and that's why people don't pay top dollar for used equipment.  I hope that helps out some.

That is a good price, the Bushnell  scopes go new for over $160 new, a used one in the $110 to $120 range.
If you like the gun, I say get it.

I don't know alot about the SRH but i am not really a large fan of DA pistols but i can buy a brand new one for $600 here. I have found a few different used pistols and i feel there is nothing wrong with a used pistol myself. I found a SRH in 44mag for $390 that is used with 7.5" bbl in like new condition which might be a bit high but not horrible. i prefer the SA pistols and not many better than ruger. I saw a used SBH in 45lc with a 45 acp cylinder in like new condition  for $450 and a SBH in 41 mag for $400. but that is also without a scope for all mine.

I have hunted at times with a Ruger SRH with Trophy 2x6 scope for 14 years.  Took 3 deer with combo and had zero problems with setup.
Price seems ok if you really want the gun.  Not a steal by any means.

Where do you get brand new ruger super redhawks for $600?  I'd love to come across a deal like that!

Thanks for the replies. After sleeping on it I'm gonna hold off. I'm thinking more towards a single action, mostly because I already have DA in the RB. The SBH's he had felt good in my hand but I'd need to get it drilled and tapped (I have to used scoped firearms where I hunt).

Have sold one gun already to raise funds and had a Wingmaster with me to sell or trade. Glad I escaped out the door because I was getting caught up in the moment - I get a little compulsive sometimes. Hopefully I can find a SBH Hunter or Bisley Hunter version somewhere.

Y'all have a Merry Christmas.....

krooz, 575.00 is not a bad price, but neither is it too high.
a few things to consider, it's stainless, comes with the rings ,mount and a scope that should work fine on that particular model, and the recoil is very manageable.

i sold mine , a very good shooter, to pay off the remaining balance of my accusport bisley.

good luck, dan

And sometimes - you can get a used one - which will have a muuuuch better trigger than a new one  ;).
A lot of secondhanded guns - have been modified.

Where do you get brand new ruger super redhawks for $600?  I'd love to come across a deal like that!

I saw a new .44 mag SRH last weekend in my local gun shop with a $620 tag on it. They had three, one .44,  and two in .454. They also had a .44 mag SRH Alaskan for $660. The owner told me iffin I was lookin' for another .44 that he had a new 5'' 629 Classic that I could have for $50 bucks more than the SRH or a new 6'' 629 for the same price as the SRH. Too bad I was just lookin'.................... >:(
"where'd you get the gun....son?"
