Got me an early present
« on: December 24, 2008, 02:52:23 PM »
We had our Christmas at my mother and step-fathers house tonight. Would you care to guess what I got? I got me a TrackerII. Man was I excited. Mom had asked me about a month ago what I would like for Christmas and I told her I wanted an H&R TrackerII slug gun. She said what in the world is a slug gun. Now I never figured that they would get me one. When we got there this evening I saw a long box leaning on the wall beside the tree but did not think nothing of it. My son was handing out the presents and he picked it and said this one is Dads. When I pulled that paper off I could not believe it. I think I have the worlds best parents. Oh yeah they also got me a bunch of Louis L'Amour books and I love to read them. Now for some questions. I do not know nothing about slugs. I have always wanted one because I like to hunt at close range and a slug gun seems to be perfect for that. I have looked before I got on here and I think I am going to try the Remington Buckhammers and the Hornady SST and see what one it likes. What have ya'll been having good luck with? How much does the 2 3/4 differ from the 3 inch? I also saw that the Buckhammer comes in a Managed Recoil has anyone tried these and if so how did they work? I will be hunting smallish whitetails at under 50 yards. I am going to get a Limbsaver slip on recoil pad also I can just imagine that sucker is going to have a little kick to it thats one reason I was wondering about the Managed Recoil load. Sorry about being long winded and  would love any help I have been shooting rifles since I was a boy but this my first slug gun. Thanks

congrats and enjoy that new gun. It is going to kick the crap out of you but it's what I, and a lot of others hunt with. I've alway done well with 2 3/4" federals with the barnes expander bullet.
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

  Holahead,
If you like L'Amour you should do a search on his site and subscribe to the collector's deal they have. It's like a book club only every time you open the Box it's an imitation leather hardback L'Amour book. My son inherited 96 of them from an uncle who recently passed away.
