PA Pistol Permits
« on: December 26, 2008, 02:37:51 AM »
New York State pistol permit holders that are interested in obtaining a permit to carry in PA should look into this.  As a long-time NYS permit holder residing in Cattaraugus County (where the judges are fair and approval rate is high), I have also had a PA permit since 1995.  As I live near the border between the states, I have always driven into Smethport, PA located in McKean County to renew this every five years.  The county sheriff is a great guy as are the office staff.  They are very helpful in explaining PA laws and when you show your NY license and pay their fee (about $25), they issue a permit for five years.  The permit is a laminated, picture ID that clearly states it is issued for self defense.

In addition to issuing a PA permit, they explain the reciprocity between the states (now about 20 states as a PA holder) compared to NY that has much less with most in the western area of the country.

Just a passing thought for those interested.
