Our local Wal Mart stores can't get ammo in fast enough to keep up with demand. I live within 30 miles of 4 Wal Mart stores and all of them tell me the samething. As soon as a shipment of ammo hits the shelves people grab it up. I usually buy CCI mini mags 500 at a time. Lately I'm lucky to find a box of them. Prices have gone up about .65 cents a hundred also.

I haven't checked Wally World for awhile, myself. They tend to be only slightly interested in anything firearm related. The local Gander Mountain and most of the real sporting goods shops seem to have a pretty good supply of .22 ammo. Funny, though, here the more affluent side of town sold out of ammo quick and the less afluent areas seem to have a fair supply. Think the new administration has a lot of folks worried. 9mm, .38/357, .44, .45s are hard to come by though, except for Gander Mtn, and their stuff tends to be a bit higher priced.

What next? Are we going to add "ammo envy" to the whole "wealth envy" that's becoming so commonplace?

If you find it and want it, then buy it. Like anything else, what's the value to you?

Wally pretty low on .22 ammo here, They traditoinally have more in the spring gearing up for gopher season. Crazy hoarders got it all messed up though.
Plain ole hoarders like me have been keeping up the stockpile all along. Not just because we got us a new president. These crazy hoarders are going to keep the ammo companies running long enough to use up the expensive components they bought.
Encourage everyone you know to BUY BUY BUY. It should help the prices go down when they quit.

Well, I checked Wally World today and they are still running low on most ammo, except 12 gauge bird loads. The real sporting goods shops around here don't seem to be having much problem keeping most popular cals and .22s in stock, though.

SS:  Check the Sportsmans Guide, Cabelas, and Cheaper than Dirt.  Each is running 22 ammo sales now.  From Sportsmans Guide you can get 2500 rnd of 22lr rn high speed from remington (Thunderbolts) for about $100 - outrageous, yes, but available.  From Cabelas you can get 2100 rnds of Federal 22lr rn high speed for about $75.  S&H not included.

I think Sprotsmans Guide is also running a sale on 7.62x39mm - 1K rnds for $500.  Now that's really outrageous, but available and possibly reloadable too.  HTH.  Mikey.

A friend of mine has placed a call to two of those places and
most of the stuff he wanted was on backorder. Sportsmans guide
told him it may be mid Feb. before the 7.62x39 is in. He ordered
500 rds over a month ago from them and still nothing.

I find when I shot the bulk box 22lr either winchester, federal, or remingotn I get misfires.

I have a slabside, and I was getting misfires.  I went through springs, firing pin whith misfires still happening.  I took my 10/22 out and have shot two boxes of PMC without a misifre.  If I remember correctly, I has the same problem in my 10/22 with bulk ammo.

I have been trying to get PMC, but haven't had any luck.  My borther tells me it is hard for them to get PMC at the range.

Any other ammo other than PMC?

The bulk Federal shoots pretty well for me.  The local Wally World was about 6k lighter after the other day when I left.

Funny thing. The local Gander Mtn has quite a bit of most ammo. They are short on .45acp, .44mag, .357, and 9mm, but have most all else. The guys there said they have had a hard time keeping up with demand, though. Still have more .22 and rifle cals than anyone in town. They are about $10-15 a box higher than pre-election, though.

I wonder if the cost will go down since the demand from China for metals has also gone down, that is why the cost on brass and lead got so outrageous recently.  I think Obama will have some resistance as far as being damaging to us for awhile as us gun owners still have the advantage in the supreme court.

The problem with that is "we" won't vote them out. The folks on the dole have now gained the upper hand and are out voting working folks. They will just keep voting the folks in who promise them the most and there are not enough folks who will vote otherwise to change things. Besides you're not really being given a choice anyway it has gotten to the point where there is really no "Choice" offered they are all the same.

IMO, it's the stocking up that's drive this mess.  Obama should be given the ammo salesman of the year award.

I agree Charlie. In my case I had thousands of round of center fire and tens of thousands of rounds of rimfire some of which I've had for 10-20 years.

When I get a new centerfire rifle I buy a miminium of 1000 rds. Handguns and rimfires I buy more because I shoot them more. It's really hard for me to believe someone only buys a brick and dosent buy more until it's gone.

I have actually been selling some excess ammo I have because I've quit shooting some of my hard kicking guns.  ;D See I put some back into circulation. Regards

22 ammo is in short supply here on the left coast state of Or.

My Brother (in Ar.) and I shoot 10/22's and our rifles love the Federal Auto Match. He has tried to find them in Ar, and has had no luck. We looked at all the online stores and they are out of stock w/ no back order. I did manage to find some in our local Wally store, and bought four bricks to send to him.

Had to drive 40 mi's to the nearest UPS terminal to mail them. They are the only ones left to mail with, and you have to go to the main terminal to do that. Fed Ex said no, and the USP said HELL NO!

Total cost for the 325 brick was around 20.00 per box. Wall World had them for 14.44

Next time I go there, I'll pick up another thousand or so for myself.
