Just starting to Muzzle load hunt.
« on: December 26, 2008, 05:21:56 PM »
I will be buying a muzzleloader and have a few questions.  Which muzzleloaders can you buy an extra barrel like a 300 Win Mag.?  Which muzzleloader is the most accurate?  Which muzzleloader is the easiest to clean.  Is there one that is the best value?  If money wasn't an issue which one would you buy?  I am a novice here so any information will be new to me.  Thanks  buckfever

CVA Apex. It comes out early Janurary. Has 13 barrels for it for starters and also comes with an Adjustable trigger.

CVA Optima Elite but as far as 300 Win Mag there are very few that offer a barrel of that caliber. I am not sure even the Encore has that option. The Optima Elite does not have an adjustable trigger but it is pretty good. The one I have is .50 ML and .270 Win in stainless with camo stock. CVA is now making barrels to fit the T/C Encore in the Bergara factory and initial reports seem to be very positive for performance and quality.

2nd T/C Encore

I don't care for the Encore, but it's about the only thing that meets your requirements.  It is a good quality piece.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery..... Knight KP1 and CVA Apex are both copies of the T/C Encore. Knight and CVA offer barrels up to 300 win mag and T/C barrels go to 416 Rigby. Not sure on the price of the KP1 but the Apex MSRP is 685 for the stainless/camo version. Could have bought my stainless Encore PLUS another barrel for that price. Went to the CVA website the other day and was really turned off. Looks like a political ad.

;D  ;D  Wipe the drool off your chin Mirage, we all know you want that Apex.

And wouldnt the Encore be a copy from the H&R?

416 rigby sounds cool but i dont think whitetail get that big for such a cartridge, and i know i dont be hunting africa any time soon.

Encore is old news, The endeavor/pro hunter are the hot topics for TC. and they aint cheap!

Im betting Budsgunshop will have these for $100 less.

And lets not forget the Adjustable trigger.  With TC you either send it back for adjustment or spend $70 + Shipping, both ways for a belm (?) trigger adjustment.

LOL-
Actually the gun I'm drooling over rite now is the .54 cal from Green Mountain. Looks like just the ticket for minnesota whitetails. I don't really want the 416 either I was just stating that T/C had the biggest selection of barrels available-not that you'd need or want to shoot anything bigger than a 30/06 from a 7 pound gun.

I've heard of this .54 GM. is it an inline or sidelock?

TC does have a huge assortment of barrels but i think CVA is sticking with the Top sellers that hunters in the US are using.  I like the 30-06 so i would probably go with that if i were to ever get one.

Its an inline-based on the Knight disc extreme action with GMs stock and barrel. Sells for 400$. You can see it at gmrifle barrel.com (look in custom shop) or Toby Bridges review at hpmuzzleloading.com.

Hey Buckfever... Buy yourself a Savage10MLII and you wont need to swap Barrel's. They have a magnitude of load's for them. Seem's like anything from gopher load's to buffalo loads. A lot of them use the Barnes original 45/70  300gr bullet... Drop
