Huntsman .45 on an Ultraslugger?

I found a 45cal Huntsman and am thinking about putting it on my 20ga Ultra's frame (thumbhole stock). In it's current frame I can't get it to hit and it is loose. I tried to fit it to the slugger and it mated right up nice and tight. Looks pretty good too, but I'd have to find a way to store the rod. I was wondering if this would work.
I am borrowing the gun from my father in law and he might give it up as he now has a new 50cal to play with. I am new to ML hunting and already use 45 bullets elsewhere. It would make sense to keep it the same as I can only find 50cal offerings from H&R now. Of course, a scope and lopping a couple inches off might be needed for this one to suit me.
Also he loads with 50gr behind a 230gr lead bullet. I have not read of such a load and it seems really light to me. I'm new so maybe there is something I am missing. The bullets do hit hard as he has dropped deer with the load before, but wouldn't 75gr be more appropriate?

Can't you just put the Huntsman forend on it and solve the rod problem?

You can probably shim the pivot and get rid of the wobble. 

My buddy shoots .45 cal. frequently.  He uses 285 gr. Hornady Great Plains bullets and 70 gr. fffg Goex.  I  shoot a 225 gr bullet with 75 gr. fffg.  Both loads are very effective.  I would never load 50 gr. for deer.  I load 50 in my .32 for small game and varmints.  100 in my 50s with 470 gr. bullets.

Tried firing the ML barrel on my receiver and fore end today. Excellent results!. I also have just got done loading the charges to 75 as it shoots well with that. I hope to report a kill tomorrow.

If you mean one of the much rumored (to me anyway) 'new' .45 Huntsmans as opposed to the old ones from the '70's
I'd like to know where you found it?!  ;)
I've been trying to find one for some time... preferably just a good barrel.

I checked with my Remington contact, a .45 Cal Huntsman isn't planned or available at this time, but they are considering bringing the .50 Cal Huntsman back with some improvements in basic design.  ;)

Come on Tim, you can't leave us hangin' like that! ;D A carrierless 209 breech plug similar to the Encore, a forend stud with a hole in it for a full length ramrod to pass through would cure just about everything wrong with the design. ;)

That .45 caliber NEF Huntsman in the manuals (2001, 2002, 2003) never made it to production and the buying public. That was the word I got, and believe it because I have never seen nor heard of one being purchased by a consumer. I think he is talking about the old H&R .45 cal Huntsman. If he is I forsee problems with blowback into the small firing pin channel after a mere 5 or 6 shots. That was my experience with the #11 conversion i did a while back. For #11 caps, you need that old Huntsman frame with the big flat firing pin for it to work properly without a lot ofmonkeying around.

If they are real serious, there are other things that could be made better, but those two things would have made the Huntsman a common household word, and not a swear word either. ;)

The new CVA Apex utility rifle with those Bergara barrels looks to be a serious competitor for the Encore and KP1. It is going to be priced out of the Handi's market, but if it is the quality of the Accura's I have looked at it should do very well.

I sure hope Remington does something to bring back the H&R muzzleloaders, but they will have to make at least those two improvements for them to grab their share of the market.

His is one of the old ones. Sorry. I'd love to find a new one. I'll have to settle for a .50 as he won't sell.
