NEED HELP CHOOSING POWDER
« on: December 27, 2008, 09:59:43 AM »
I haven't reloaded in 30 years, but plan to start soon.  I plan to reload for 30-30 cast bullet hunting loads, 9mm cast bullet self defense loads, 44 magnum cast bullet both heavy hunting and light plinking loads, along with 12 ga. shotgun.  I would like to go with only two powders to cover this broad range, and realize that I may not be able to cover it all with just two.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

There are many choices that will fit that bill, but I'll offer IMR 30-31 and Unique.

If your going with only 2 powders I'd use Unique for pistol & shotgun loads. And H-4895 for cast.

Blue Dot will work for all of that. Kinda slow for the 12ga unless you're loading super duck killers though. Unique would be fine too, it'll get you to 1600+ fps in the rifle and be pretty close to ideal for the rest.
