270 Ultra Comp
« on: December 28, 2008, 06:06:48 AM »
New here and just picked up my first Handi at a local pawn shop.......

its a .270 Ultra Comp with green and grey laminate stock.....barrel and stock show slight wear but for $125.00 I couldnt pass it up. got it home cleaned it up and now look great!!

I knew nothing about them until I found this forum and just have a quick question i hope someone will answer.....
the reciever has a HK serial # which says it was manufactured in 1996 and the barrel says Handi Rifle SB2 .270......was it manufactured in 1996 or is it an older reciever with newer barrel???? since everything I have found says the Ultra Comp was manufactured in 2003.....

If it was factory fitted, the last 3 numbers of the serial number should be marked on the left side of the barrel underlug. If they don't match, someone has swapped the original barrel out. Most barrels are marked SB2 in some form or another.

Thanks for the fast reply.

yes it is engraved with the same last three numbers as the serial #.......so was the barrel factory fitted at a later date or did it all came together new?????  and if so that means it was manf. in 1996??

Thanks again.

I'd say new since they won't fit high pressure barrels to frames older than 1999, or the swapper marked it himself, is there more than one set of numbers on the underlug?

Welcome to the land of Handiholics.

I have never really heard what the years of manufacture were for the Handi Ultra Comp rifles but the literature that came with mine, a .270 - Serial Prefix-HP (2000) has a print date of 1996. I've also seen reports on the Ultra Comp in 2003.
Sounds like you may have found a good deal. Good for you!

If you search through the FAQ's, the literature mentioned above was saved there by Quickdtoo. Use ultracomp (one word) as your key word.
There is a lot of good info in there on the Handi rifles. Well worth spending the time...
