Cheap E callers
« on: December 28, 2008, 08:09:19 AM »
I'm on a fixed income and can not afford the $200.00 plus E callers so after doing a short search I came across a couple with in my price range.
If you have or had one I would like your option.

First is. Extreme Dimension Mini Phantom Digital Calls $33.00

It may be the size and shape of a small flashlight, but the Mini Phantom puts out an incredible volume of realistic sounds designed to pull in your quarry quickly. Though small, it's loaded with advanced capabilities including the absolute best sound quality in its class, emitting crisp, clear calls at the push of a button. Just "point and shoot" -- the speaker is mounted in front, so you can aim in any direction instantly. Features sound volumes up to 110 dB; you can play 2 sounds simultaneously or overlap the same sound on demand. Distress sounds can last up to 2 minutes, and the mute button lets you squelch a call at any time. Water-resistant housing; ergonomic design with rubberized grips; undistorted 8-bit sound; speaker/headphone jack; easy-access buttons for gloved hands; auto-shutoff after 2 minutes; and built-in lanyard ring. Uses 3 AAA batteries (included). Makes jackrabbit, cottontail, and woodpecker sounds, coyote howls, and rodent squeaks.

There are a lot of sounds available on the net as MP3 files for free. Wouldn't it be to your advantage to get something that could make use of all these free files? Maybe just a regular MP3 player with an amp?

Yes that is an option, however as seen by this partlist of idems needed to build a caller it is close to what the above cheap callers cost.
Radio Shack items parts list

Radio Shack #277-1008, Mini Audio Amplifier/Speaker = $12.99ea

Radio Shack #275-1565, SPST Soft Feel Push on Push Off Switch = $2.59ea

Radio Shack #276-084, LED Indicator Light for Amp (fits 3/16" hole) = $1.99ea

Radio Shack #42-2387, 6 Foot Patch Cord 1/8" Stereo Plug on each end = $4.99ea

Radio Shack #270-325, 9V Snap Type Battery Connectors (Pkg. of 5) = $1.99ea

Radio Shack #270-1805, Project Enclosure ((6”x3’X2”) = $3.79ea

The speaker found to produce the absolute BEST sound is the Speco SPC-5 PA Speaker. These can be order online from Lashen Electronics, they are $8.42 plus shipping, but they have a minimum order of $25.00. This speaker comes with about 10 feet of speaker wire and a plug attached (or at least the ones I have used have) to plug the speaker directly into the Speaker Jack on the Radio Shack Mini Amp.

For a total of $36.76, if you add in the cost of even a cheap MP3 player and add your states sales tax it is well above the cost of the above E Callers.
That is why I am looking for owner comments.

Thank you for the thought.

I have known guys to use even old CD players instead of the mp3 player or even cassette players attached to that homemade equipment and it works good. You still download all those free sounds and burn them to a Cd set up the way you want the sequence to play. don't have to get any kind of good mp3 player either as long as it works.
