I think Tim found some numbers.. 24 inch pounds IIRC.

Have any of you had experience with accuracy of dedicated pillar bedded fore ends for switch barrels?  In theory, the metal-to-metal contact of the pillar and barrel lug should give consistent fore end installation which should contribute to consistent point of impact when barrels are switched.

Can some one explain the torque wrench setup?

My forearm has a phillips head. What would I need to buy?

So using the same torque each time would likely eliminate the need to re-zero after switching barrels? Or, even if you did, you would not need to fire as many shots to get back to zero?

I have a Craftsman electric screwdriver with the adjustable torque head. I set it on #1 and tighten. ;)

i found that in all of my combinations between 2 frames
the torque is--- 22 inch lbs consistently.
works excellent with all my barrels on both frames.
never have to re-zero. probably cause i use the same brand glass, rings and mounts on all.
with same torque settings for all bases and rings.
both forends are inletted the exact same with o-rings and p-pads of the same size.
3 factory fitted barrels and 3 previously luved ones (used) on either frame.
manufacturer dates are around 2 years difference.
and all barrel diameters are closely the same.
the forends are moded for the largest diameter barrel, of course.......

BUT,   like i mentioned on a previous thread----i have read some horror stories of barrels
not fitting, not even close!!!!!!!!
i guess i have been lucky so-far.

I've been away from the handi scene for a while, partially because I decided I just had to have nice fitted walnut forends for each of my five bbls - to match an equaly nice BC stock I have - on one receiver. On second thought however, the main reason I ventured into handi-land was to stay low-budget, so buying multiple fancy forends didn't make much sense ???

Becoming even more practical-minded as the economy takes a dump, I've decided to lower my standards a bit and just obtain pallet-wood forends to fit and finish to match a cheapo stock I reshaped and put a Pachmayer pad on.

I imagine many who have a laminated or other fancy stock don't want to buy matching/fitted forends for each of their bbls, so use only one forend for all of them. I can see how accuracy problems might be common when doing this...
