Did Some Maintenance
« on: December 29, 2008, 01:13:08 PM »
I changed the oil on my XL-1200N (Nightster) this afternoon.  I had to use a pair of Channel-Locs to get the oil filter off.  It held 3 quarts of 20W-50 Harley Davidson dino.  I set my front tire at 30 psi & the rear to 40 psi.  I'm thinking I should lower the rear to 36.  The temp was about 70 so I got a little ride in.

Remember, the major cause of tire failure is under inflation.

Always plenty to work on around here also. even though it is warm enough to ride - roads are clear now, but too much salt on them. D&H - Changing out that starter sure beats working.

   Put air horns on the "Geezer Glide" - they don't look too bad on a big bike (I hope), chrome upper motor mount. Some other stuff back ordered.
    Lower bars on the Springer, and fluff up the hand controls with all chrome, new riser studs and bushings, new needle and seat, polish the carb, and get the intake chromed. And that should be it till spring.
      Hope all you guys had a great Christmas;

Wish I could do it for ya 'Law. Working on the bikes is my "therapy".  Diesel mechanic in my real job, and we're constantly told to "hurry it outa here, just patch it up for now if you can, don't spend too much on it", etc. That sticks in my craw most of the time - hate doing anything half a$$ed. When I'm working on the bikes, I do it my way - and it's a pleasure. Small parts, small tools, clean, and no creepers.  And no bosses around telling me to cobble it up the quick way. (and I can have a couple beers while I'm working). Hope that don't sound too wierd.

Heck NO!  I feel the same way!  I try to do most of the stuff myself for that reason.  Quality time with my ride!   ;D
