Lee Minie Balls
« on: December 30, 2008, 05:46:19 AM »
I am looking at buying a conical bullet mold and was thinking of getting one of these molds (50 cal / 360 grain).

Are these bullets suitable for shooting deer/elk sized game?  How easy are these to load (Knight Disc Extreme)?  What kind of accuracy should I expect?  Is there a better bullet out there for me to cast?

Thank you,

NitroSteel.

for the price of lee molds, why not? They shoot good in a variety of guns.  Speaking on the penetration topic, few years back my father shot a doe in the front shoulder as it was facing him, bullet was found against the hide on the opposite hind quarter.  He was shooting 70 or 80gr out of his sidelock, so it wasn't a heavy load by any means...

I hope your not referring to the Lee Modern Minie Mold as these are target Minies suitable only for light charges and certainly not good for elk. I have taken deer with them but not at more than 100 yards. In my .50 Lyman Cougar they will only accept 40 to 45 grains of Pyrodex P behind them for best accuracy.

I can't speak for the other Lee Minie Molds.
