Shooting High
« on: December 30, 2008, 08:05:20 AM »
Santa brought me a new NEF pardner, the one with the 18 1/2 inch barrel, no screw in chokes.
I shot #4 shot, and a few slugs.  Both shoot high.
What would be best?
-I could take it to a gunsmith, and have a taller bead, or a genuine front sight installed.  Trouble is, my gunsmith is pretty good, but he takes weeks, sometimes months to complete a job.
-I was wondering if there was some type of aftermarket front sight that can I myself could attach in some manner.

Thanks

Try one of the HI-VIZ glue on or magnet type sights . Might take gun to store and see if it looks like it would work . other option is shoot a heaiver load .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Check Brownells or Midway USA for after market sights. A regular bead sight shoots high with slugs and buckshot. Police shotguns have a higher bead installed to adjust the aimpoint from the crotch to the center mass area for 50 yrd shots. These were on the 870's  I was issued. I used a Mossberg mod 500    18 1/4" cylinder bore barrel with Remingtom Mod 700 rifle sights installed on the barrell for 20 years. Fired to point of aim up close or out to 100 yards.
Deer hunting is mostly fun then you shoot one and it turns to work.

I had the same trouble with the 20" turkey bbl on my Encore. A limbsaver recoil pad really helped bring the pattern down.
