about 2300 FPS for the HMR2
1600 for the stinger.  It is the parent case of the HMR2.  it is slightly longer than the standard 22LR case
2200 for a 22 mag.
I have a 22LR, 22Mag, and a 17HMR.
All three have their place.
I like the 22 long rifle for small game hunting, and then I like to use the big slow 40 grain round nose target ammo.  The hyper stuff really tears up rabbits and bushy tails.
the 22 mag is great under 150 yards and with all the new ammo choices it will do everything that the others will do.
The 17 HMR is best for varmint hunting in rocky areas where I do not have to worry about over penitration or a richochette.
The little 17grain bullet comes apart if it hits anything hard.

1st off the 22Mag is in a catagory all it's own and you should get one. As far as comparing a HM2 to the Stinger and Velocitor you will find that 90% of .22 guns do not shoot the Stinger very accurately/consistant. The Velociter is a good round to get if you olny can get one rimfire but the HM2 will will hit as hard and shoot allot flatter. I'll look for the chart. I personally love my HM2 and have picked up 4000rnds for less than $3.50/box. Allot cheaper then Stingers or Velocitors and it's a hell of a lot more accurate and flat shooting.

Heres a link to compare both .17's and a standard .22HV. I'll look for more.

Here's a good article but remember this guy shunned the HM2 without ringing out a few rifles. http://www.varmintal.com/17hmr.htm#Ammo2

Heres more charts:

Neither
I will go for a H&R Sportster 17 hmr with a 22 mag extra barrel.
I already have a 10-22 so I believe this combination will serve me well.
I accept the extra cost for ammo but the H&R being single shot should keep me striving for accuracy
