Hodgdon's 2009
« on: December 31, 2008, 12:47:50 PM »
Picked up a copy of the new Hodgdon's 2009 reloading annual the other night but have one complaint about it , right on the cover it says " Updated data for 27 rounds " .

I just wish that they would tell you what rounds have been updated ,maybe do the new data in RED or at least give a list of the rounds that have NEW DATA , something that gives you a clue without having to compare every load against last years . So if I have a load that was OK with last years data and is now over MAX I would know .

Not that it makes a big deal , I will use the newest info that I can get , just would be nice to know what changed .  ???  ;D

Do you think they would ever admit that last years data was over max?  ;D

It's not the hunting or the finding it's about the time we spend with friends and the stories about what was.

It happens more than you would think , as the powder profiles & processes change , so does the amount you may need to do the same thing . Just look at data from 10 years ago compared to today , most of the older loads are way over max now .

Did the Loads you worked up with last years Powder Lot show presure signs? Do you have a lot of that powder Lot ? If so no worries.. You should always drop down and work back up when changing Lots Though.

I would assume that if last years data shoots great in your rifle, the fact that the new manual changed its data would not alter the fact that you already have a great load formula, that needs no updating.

I know I use a 140 gr 270 Win load that is great in my rifle, and accurate as can be, but was discovered by mistake.  I was using data for the 130 gr bullet.  Turned out, it was the same but I would not have changed even after discovering an error.  The load results were that good.

I'm setting perty good as far as powders go , being that I tend to buy in either 4 , 8 and sometimes 16 pound groups using the same lot numbers .

The only place I see were it could be a real problem is in a case of were someone was using last years data and a batch of powder from this year , and there had been some drastic change to the powder causing a major data change .
