Earthboxes
« on: December 31, 2008, 07:53:51 PM »

I've just found this section of GBs a short while ago so now I'm going crazy reading all the back pages. Someone had posted a question about Earthboxes and I have a few of them here.
First of all I live about 45 miles from where the Earthbox was invented. I have been to the Earthbox Research Center and sat in on their free seminars. The EBs were invented by a life long commercial tomato farmer as a solution to a flooding problem her had one year. The result is a system that uses 10% of the fertilizer and about 20% of the water it would take to grow the same amount of crops in the ground. A lot of your questions will be answered by visiting the website  www.earthbox.com and reading through.
They are not filled with dirt or potting soil. They use a mixture of moss or other items that make up the right properties. The EB uses what is called a gradient principal to cause the plant to see after the water and nutrients it needs in order to grow. That way the plants get what they need in the proper amounts as well.
I don't work for this company or have any interest in them.

  Happy New Year
