Glock 20SF on Ca. approved hand gun list as of 12/31/08
« on: December 31, 2008, 10:55:24 PM »
Just noticed a Glock 20SF appears on Ca. DOJ list of newly approved hand guns as of 12/31/08.  I didn't look for a G29SF.  May be there.

What's the difference between the SF and the standard G20?

TIA,

Paul

Here are a side by side of the G21 and G21SF which would also be the same for the G20 and G20SF

Well yesterday afternoon, I decided that I would just get the G20 fullsize.  A buddy of mine who's wife is a Eureka Police Officer in Eureka Mt here, and although there is quite a size differance between her and I, me being the bigger of the two, she carries her personnal G21 full size with no problems.  She actually prefered the fullsize over the SF model.

So I now have the fullsize because it was available, and it may take getting used to the larger frame, but it is very workable.

Frankly, in my hands, I can feel little difference in the standard and sf mdls 20/21. Certainly not enough difference to make me give up one for the other. If the standard grip is too large for you, chances are the sf grip will be as well.

Yes there is just small difference in standard Slim Frame Glocks because in the case of the G29 it still takes the same 10 round magazine. I have a friend state that he was wondering if his 40 cal SF would have frame problems because of the slimmer frame and when we looked at his standard and the Slim Frame and decided where it counts there was no real difference in frames. He thought it looked like it was just the plastic thickness of the grip, I wasn't too sure of anything at the time thanks to the sinus headache that was making my head explode.

I haven't decided as yet if I like my new G29SF over my old G29, but I have as yet to shoot it or a couple other new guns due to weather and other things, but mainly the weather.  >:(

Waldo you sure there is a SF in the Glocks for the G35, 22, 23 and 27?  As those are the only ones that are in .40 cal and there is no news being spoke of this at Glocktalk.com

You can see the differance in the Standard Frame and the Slim Frame above, and to hold them side by side, yes there is a noticable differance between the two.  One of the problems with the SF version is that if one wants the Mech Tech CCU for their Glock it will not work, as the Mech Tech CCU is only designed for the Standard Frame Glock Models G20 (10mm), G21 (45ACP), G17 (9mm), G22 (40 SW), G31 (357 Sig), G34 (9mm Long Slide) and G35 (40 SW Long Slide).   I'm kinda attracted to possibly getting a Mech Tech CCU in the near future as an addition for a 16.5" carbine, so the SF version is plainly out of the question.

Just for referance of the Mech Tech CCU http://www.mechtechsys.com/glock.html

The CCU looks interesting! But once I think it over, looks like I'd have about 2/3 the cost of an AR in one, and still a pistol caliber. Looks like fun tho!

Being a long time member there and long time 10mm owner and fan of S&W 10xx series, Tanfoglio, and Glock I was a doubter also, but the when comparing the SF models to regular frame there didn't seems to be noticable difference in size, but there was a big difference in weight. My guess was the slide of the G30 and G36 are about 3/16" difference, my friend was comparing his 30 to q 36 at the gun shop at the time, he has since traded for the 36, but I have nothing to compare my G29SF as I sold my 29 some time ago. My G29 SF says SF on box and Zanders did have 2 listed Saturday and a I just checked again and one G29 (blk) is out of stock and same with the G30 SF now. My buddy (owns a gun shop) was looking at the G30SF Saturday and may have bought the one they had listed as the G30, G21 and G22 G23 & G27 (45ACP and 40 S&W) are his best sellers. Funny thing is he can't hardly give away one of the 9mm models. He order three of the 9mm models over a year ago and just sold the last one in May for cost to a dealer that stopped in one day on the way back to Northern IL of all places.

If the rain ever stops I plan on taking the G29SF, Para 1911 Gun Rights 45ACP, and Ruger LCR to the range for some shake down. But the way it is thunder booming out that may have to wait and couple more days.

Waldo, I don't know anyone that carries a 9mm either except from their vehicle to the IDPA, IPSC or GSSF match where the 9mm rules the course.

I seem to have had a senior moment I was confussing a SF with SL and my 29 is an SL to be sure.  :-[
Raising two grandsons, 15 months and 4 years old, keeps me tired and confused most of the time.

10 mm for when 45 ACP is not enough!!!

Man I really screwed up all my postings with the SF and SL models. Mine is an SF (short frame) and raising two grandsons is starting to wear on me, 64 is to old to be raising a 16 month old boy and his 4.5 year old brother.

I did get get some range time with the "thundering ten" and was making milk jugs dance at 25 yards and seldom a miss with no hiccups.

Today I put in Wolff recoil springs and guide rod, tomorrow the new firing pin spring and 3.5 lb trigger.
