I just got some williams sights and I don't know what size to tap for?

The most common sized sight screws are 6-48 and 8-48.

Didn't the Williams sights come with mounting screws??

Yes they did come with screws,but my screw pitch gage only goes up to 42tps

Can you measure the diameter of the screws that came with the sight?  They are almost surely 6-48 but if you can measure them we can be sure.

It just dawned on me that the scope mount screws on almost any modern rifle (factory) are 6-48.  If the sight screws fit an existing hole in a modern rifle they are 6-48..
