dont know about romanian but i have had a russia tok for 20 yaers or so.  in 7.62 this gun will feed an empty case.  if this cartridge had benn developed 30 yrs ago it would be known as the 30 shot mag.  in case you have missed it i love this gun.  accurate, goes bang every time ( in my opinion this is a must in def./off. arm).  the tok dose have a odd angle to the grip and to use well you will need to cant your wrist till mussle memory takes over.  almost all ammo is going to be ball unless you reload.  you can use 30 mauser, but be carefull of useing 7.62 made for the cz 52 as that is hot.  as this cal. was also used in the ppsh(?) or one of them there is some interesting ammo about if you can find it.  did i say i liked this pistol? wish i still had one, mine now rests in my wifes night stand, she fired it and said thank you, last time i shot it.
Everything before BUT is B.S.

I bought one from SOG.  Condition was high VG.  Bore had light frosting but strong rifling.  A lot of people complain about the big ugly safety but I really don't see that as an issue on an inexpensive gun like this.

However, the thing that bothered me most was that the gun was a mixmaster.  The serial numbers on the frame, slide, and barrel were all different.  I wish they had disclosed that fact in their advertising.  However, it's a cheap gun at $200 so I don't guess I'll pay the $35 or so to send it back.

I've got a ChiCom Tokarev I took off a North Vietnamese Captain that (supriseingly) survived a little ambush party my unit held for his unit.  It doesn't have a safety.  Seems to me I remember something about the Tok's being refitted with one so they could be imported into the U.S.  Kinda like the Walther PPK/PPK-S thing I think.   :-\

ATlLaw - Yours is a TT-33.  It did not come with a safety other than the square 'C' shaped half-cock notch on the hammer.

Later versions such as the Chinese Type 54-1 came with a slide safety that worked opposite of the 1911.

My first ones were gifts from a Chinese officers and non-coms but I left them in the same foot locker as all the other Toks we recovered.  My current one is a Type 54-1 that the safety kept falling out of, so I left it out.  Works just like the standard TT-33.  I like it a lot.  Mikey.

I ordered it today and i found it $20 cheaper at www.centerfiresystems.com  too. I'll post what i receive.  Its going to fit nicely between my other toks that i already have. I have the chinese tokarev's in both 7,62x25 and in 9mm luger too. There not converted they came this way.

I also see there still offering the CZ82 in 9mm mak too. I'd like to get a few more of those too.

bunch of the early ones were ruined , they drilled a hole (for the nonexistent safety) then listed them as "safety missing" the blue is all discolored around the hole from the heat of drilling the tempered metal.

I have recently received one of the Romanian Tokarevs from SOG.

Over all I'm happy with it.  It's my first Tokarev.

It did come to me with a safety that would not function with your bare hand.  I could use a screwdriver and some force to make the safety engage/dis-engage.  I took the safety completely apart and found that they had drilled overlapping holes for the safety detent, leaving a sharp triangle between that the detent had to navigate over.  I filed this down to a smooth rounded transition between the two, and also radiused the detent itself which was very sharply pointed, and after reassembly it works like it should, smoothly and with minimal effort with your thumb.

Also, in the area where they added the import safety, on both sides of the frame the metal finish is blemished with fine scratches.

There are perhaps a few small blemishes elsewhere, but over all the rest of the gun looks good and functions fine.  There is some evidence of grinding on the top of the slide near the front sight.  Not sure what happened there.  The finish is slightly different there, and there are fine tool marks.

The mags are in excellent shape, as are the grips.

The holster appeared unissued, almost new.

Haven't fired it yet, ammo is on the way.

Regards,
Chris

I don't know whether this was a rare find or not. I purchased a 52 a couple yrs. ago in it's orignal box. Was told it made it over before the major import's cranked in. Any truth to this. Just curios. I have not seen any other's in a box. Also looking to pick-up a 58. runnin at 2 buck's. Anyone have one that they have shot?
