I bought this gun some 7-8 years ago. Its a 35 Rem and was to be my wife's rifle. It wasn't drilled and tapped for a scope and she wanted one. So, I bought the base and off it when to the gunsmith. I got it back with a explanation about mine having supplied the wrong base. I didn't give him the scope or rings, just the gun and base. In the end he did use the base I supplied.
I mounted the scope and immediately noticed that the base was not centered on the receiver. It was twisted and off to the left side. I called him back and complained, basically I got no where. His sole argument was I had supplied the wrong base and that was the reason the end result was not to my satisfaction. There was no getting thru to this guy.. he lost a customer and everyone I can talk to about what he has done. That was years ago, the issue is long dead.
I COULD have a custom base reinstalled with different mounting screws in not stock positions, I decided to try the millet rings first.
On to the reason for my post... as open sites are not what my wife wants. I got a set of Millet rings and a Nikon Prostaff scope. Using a collimator I set the scope to the center of its adjustments and mounted and adjusted the rings to center the cross hairs in the grid. As a rule, I do not care for the Millet rings. But for this purpose they are Taylor made. I was able to get the scope aligned to the barrel with the scopes settings centered.
I haven't shot it since this install, but I am hoping that this will allow me to use this great old gun. What do you guys think?
