Tikka T3 Varmint vs. Remington SPS Varmint
« on: January 02, 2009, 03:46:25 PM »
Have the latter in .22-250 and am pretty satisfied with it. However, the shorter barrel and removable mag on the Tikka are appealing; not sure if worth changing rifles, though. Is Tikka barrel free-floated and is it true they're guaranteed to shoot <moa out of the box? A local dealer selling T3 V's for $699 this month.
Any input will be appreciated!

I have the T3 varmint in 223. The barrel is free floated and yes, gauranteed 3 shot sub MOA group. Mine shoots a good deal tighter than MOA. The Tikka has an excellent trigger which does not require any gunsmithing. I have had mine a few years now and it is a definite keeper. I do not have the Remington to compare to but I find it difficult to believe that it could be any better than the Tikka.

Yes they do have a guarantee but they do not stand behind it. I know this from experience.

I'm have 3 Rem 700"s but am also looking at a Tikka but I hear that their customer support is almost nonexistent. Is that true? Just wondering

My experience with 3 Tikkas = .4-.8 moa on an average day.

(.308, .270, .22-250)

Remingtons are nice, too.
Vote them all out, EVERY election!

Does anyone remember the scene from "Quigley Down Under" showing the aborigines lined up on the skyline as far as you could see?   That needs to be US!

Now this is from my experience,Who ever told you there customer support is nonexistent they told you right. But the Tikka t3 is a very accurate rifle. But if you get one just plan on taking it to a gunsmith if any thing is not right with the gun.
To me I would just stay with a Rem 700.

I doubt if there is anywhere here in the States for customer support. Heck, it took almost 4 months to get my T3 Varmint .308 after I ordered it. I have two Tikka's now. Both T3 Varmints' the .308 & a .223 Stainless. Both shoot as advertised, & neither one has given me any trouble. I wouldn't hesitate to recomend a Tikka rifle to anyone.
AMERICA........Love it or leave it!

Tikka customer support is handled by Beretta. They do offer customer support but........ I had to send one rifle back and waited 6 months for it to return. I do not understand how a huge and established company like Beretta cannot do a decent job, in a timely manner. In my experience they will sort you out though, just have to have a spare rifle in the meantime.
