First 30-30 Harvest

After many succesful hunts over the years using a BP smokepole, shotguns and a .243 my brother dusted off his virgin Marlin 336 and wandered into the wilds. He loaded a 150gr Winchester PP over Hodgdon Varget for a very memorable hunt. The bullet cut the liver in half, took out half of one lung and pulped the other. The buck kicked ran a 30 yard circle around an oak tree and stopped. His rear end dropped and he fell over like a stone. End of story. Done well, ay? (Five star, Knife and Fork rating ;D)

Never look down on what another hunter is shooting, I packed an old model 94 for many years, took lots of game with it and sat around the campfire at night and listened to the boys packing the BIG guns complain about how they missed, or watched the deer run off after they shot it.  Keep them within the range of the bullet and the 30-30 will perform with the best of them.

Very good buck ,got me a336 in 30/30 and 35 rem. ,next year i,m going to try both of them out.

A buck like that might just show up with buddies.  Besides, you never know whether a sounder of hogs might show up first.  In that case, he doesn't have enough ammo.

Beautiful buck Troll64. Love that Marlin too! I've got a Marlin 336CS That I have killed a couple does with. Didn't get one this year with it, but did kill a nice 8 point with my Remmy Model 700 ADL. My first big buck! If I can find the pictures from deer camp this year I will get one posted.

I've used factory Remington 150 grain corelockt ammo for both does I killed. Full penetration. On the first doe I hit her in the boiler room and the bullet broke her right shoulder when it exited. I used Winchester factory ammo in my 270 this year for the buck.

Great pic of gun and buck, I also got my 30-06 bloodied for the first time I had it out hunting last Thurs. Wish it was a 30-30, that 06 blow out half the back strap on both sides when i spined em.
