Marlin 336 S.C. Date of Manufacture
« on: January 03, 2009, 09:11:35 AM »
Guys,

I need some help.  I have a Marlin 336 S.C. in .32 Winchester Special and the serial number is T334xx.  When was it manufactured?  The internet sites don't list it.  Anybody know?  Does the S.C. stand for "saddle carbine?"  It has a 20" barrel and a 1/2 mag.
Thanks,

BT53

I have a very early on as well in 35 rem..1948 to be exact... ;D Always thought it was 46... Cannot find my link... But I pulled out the Brophy book... No so by this book.. Guess I need to go read it again!!

The Marlin  book shows 1948 to 1963 for the 336 S.C. 1950 for the first year of the 32 SPL. Still reading....

T says it's a 1960 manufacture.

Just take that gun hunting!!!  I'm SURE he would want that, give him a little thank you with every animal harvested!!  ;) :)

I had kind of a morbid conversation with my pop the otherday. My mom passed two years ago and my grandfather isn't doing well now. Talk came up on cremation. He wanted to be sure I knew he wanted to be cremated. I said OK what can I do with the ashes? He said I want some here and some there you do what you want with the rest. Followed by, "why do you ask?"  I answered with, "I am going to keep him on my loading bench and add a dash to my 308 reload's." (His favorite caliber) That way you can still be with me on every hunt.. . .
I made my pop cry and smile all at the same time....

Geez, you are lucky.  My son said he was going to put my ashes in a mayonnaise jar in his closet.  He said then he could take me out every once in a while and shake me up.  He said he would say "did I cut the grass good enough this time old man?"

Heck, that darn near made me tear up!  :'(  That's about the neatest thing I've heard by a... um... longshot!  I went down to tell my wife, well actually I went down for another beer and some more Collard greens and Hog jowls, but I told my wife.  She said "don't you wish somebody would do that for you!"

You're a good boy CW!   :-*

Guys,

Now for something more serious...My .32 is pretty beat up.  It is no collector.  It has mis-drilled holes in the top of the receiver for a Weaver base and the blue is very weak.  The bore is very good an the wood is just ok.  I am going to send it off to Marlin for a refurbish and I will post the details with before and after pictures.  Thanks again for all your help!
