H&R Model 158
« on: January 03, 2009, 09:35:42 AM »
I lucked upon one of these in caliber 30-30,came with an older Weaver 2.5 scope for $165.00. Needless to say I couldn,t have been more pleased. I kinda like the profile on the older barrel than on the new 30-30. Debating whether to leave the scope on or transfer it to my CZ safari magnum in .375 H&H.

The older Toppers are out there, and they surface once in the while. I too like the slim profile of the older barrels and have will have three of them once I receive the one just purchased off the classifieds. The scope you mentioned is perfect for the topper. Don't know much about the CZ.

Carbine man is correct. Bide your time and keep a keen eye out!!
Here is a tip for ya. Coffees dropped off at local gun shops win favor with teh help. Ask for some "help" to watch for this or that!!  ;D
BTW, I had my hands on a .58cal muzzle loader yeaterday!!  $149 OTD!!!

I was tempted, but didn't jump.

These older toppers are my favorite as well. I have a .410, 20ga, 30-30, and a 22 Rem Jet. If your looking for a new barrel for your new gun, check out this link from a while back. It may still be for sale.

*I lucked up on a topper 30-30 barrel at a local gun shop not long ago to go with my new hornet. Put a Bushnell 1.5x 4.5 on it and with the new leverevolution ammo, the hornet collects a lot of dust now.

Hey Hofs01, that was my ad. I had somebody interested, but the deal ultimately fell through. Co-incidentally I was just thinking today of re-upping it. I didn't realize it was as long ago as Sept, but I guess time limit has passed that will allow me to "bump" it up. ;)

And mauser98us, have a look at my avatar, it is my Topper 158 30/30 with Mannlicher (aftermarket) forend, and a 2.5 Weaver scope, a perfect scope for it IMHO. It weighs just under six pounds with the scope and a round in the chamber. I love it!

Cheers

Kerry, there's no time limit on bumping late, just too early!! ;D It would be against GBO rules to relist it by posting a duplicate ad, bumping it would be the correct way to handle it if it's still available. ;)

Yeah Tim, I know... I was just tryin' to pull yer chain a bit... ;) ;)

There's a bit of a thread to it 'cuz it was before the new rules came in about not having discussions on the classifieds, do you want me to bump it anyway?

Cheers

Here's a bigger pic of it, and I mis-spoke about the scope, its actually a Weaver 3x and it's still perfect!
Gotta finish re-finishing the forend someday!
