#4 shot in a rifled slug barrel.

Yes, I know you are not supposed to to this but this is a question to those who know from experience not purely an academic viewpoint. If you use a steel shot wad unslit and your rate of twist is 1-35 in a rifled bore BUT the barrel is only 18-1/2" will you really have that much of a "donut pattern" at say 10 yds? I am of the opinion you will not. Comments please !

If you fire shot out of a rifled bore, the shot colum will spin. I can't say how far out the doughnut begins. But I fired enough shot loads out of an old .58 muzzle loading rifle at cardboard to satisfy me I was wasting my time and powder. A two inch revolver barrel will spin a bullet.

Shot patterns don't open up all that much at 10 yds from a smooth bore. From the rifled barrel, you may still be shooting basically a slug at that distance.

I'd suggest trying it and a detailed report back to us! All you'd need would be a handfull of reloads, a few pieces of carboard and a good back stop.
