Ruger hammer exchange?

I haven't shot a Ruger single action in some years but just acquired a new vaquero in .45 colt and it seems the hammer spur is much longer and higher than I had expected. Have they made the new vaquero hammer for fanning? It just seems excessive to me so I am wondering, I'm sure the super blackhawk hammer will drop in but how about a Bisley hammer? It appears as though the Bisley hammer would require a Bisley grip frame and while I do like the feel of the bisley grip I really don't want to spend that much money on my new plinker. Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

No, not for fanning. Any single action fan knows not to fan a revolver, no pun intended. That nonsense is saved for Hollywood. I don't own a Vaquero (I love to adjust my sights) so I can't speak to that hammer but here are profiles of the Super, Blackhawk and Bisley, starting from left to right. The Super will go on a Blackhawk and a Vaquero but the Bisley is proprietary. The photo shows why. A Super hammer is your best bet for ease and comfort. No, it's not for sale. ;)

It may be just perspective but the hammer on my "new vaquero" does appear to have a longer, more upswept and pointed spur than the blackhawk hammer pictured. Anyhow, I think I will get a SBH hammer.
  As to fanning, trust me, it ain't happening just in Hollywood, owning a gun does not make one "gun wise". ;D
I've had to work on a couple of imported single actions so abused and it can get ugly but it seems to be the first thing people want to try.

If you want a Bisley hammer you either have to cut the grip frame to fit or cut the hammer to fit.  I prefer to cut the hammer.  just lay your old hammer over the Bisley and mark out what needs to be removed.  It's hard but can be cut with a cutoff tool.  If you have a "new" Vaquero it does have a higher hammer than the original one.

Thanks Hank, and yes it is the "New" Vaquero. I thought that spur seemed different from the old Blackhawks I used to shoot but it's been quite some time since I last handled a Blackhawk so I wasn't sure.
