Good morning every one, another beautiful day in Montana. 15 degrees with clear blue skies.

Tuesday I take the wife to Great Falls and put her on the plane and send her to our son in Maryland to await the Birth of our next granddaughter. 

I'll swing by Wally World and pick up the box of .22 shells.  you know the big box that has 10 smaller boxes.  You know the smaller boxes that hold 550 round each.  That should hold the wife until May.

I have 3500 rounds of 17 HM2 but I will have to get more to make it through the season. Eventually the 17HM2's will have to be converted to 17 HMR.

Well I'm not worried about 22 ammo yet as my Toz 17 stock is not finished yet.  I tell this little bolt gun they call a Russian Trainer Rifle is a great little 22 LR shooter.

Now I'm just sitting here trying to get my head in gear, as my wife gave me this over the counter medication to help me sleep.  It like kicked my butt.  I found a good online radio station that unlike others where you have to worry about line feed, and uploading RealAudio etc this does not require it http://www.theradio.com is great.

It does pretty good, over here on the farm where my brother inlaw works, I have 168 yard confirmed kills on Richardson Ground Squirrels on one good day    gotta love it

At that range though with the Remington value pack 22 LR ammo, they just kinda fall over.

One of the fellow that use come up here every year from California shot a gopher with is .22-250 at just over 500 yards.

With a .22, a 168 yard kill does give you bragging rights.  I have one kill at 226 yards with the .22.  It took 8 shots to get the hit. confirmed by lase and pacing. I haven't even come close to matching that or your 168 yards since.

Both my brother in law and myself used laser range finders on those to check for sure.  Now of course these are not just off hand shooting stats but using a good set of cross stix and a good steady hold while sitting.  My brother in law gets frustrated because he's using a much newer Ruger 1022 and of course burning up much more ammo 

I love this little TOZ 17 bolt action 5 shot 22 LR, and will be glad when he finishes the stock.
