Shotguns I might afford, give me the scoop on them.
« on: January 04, 2009, 08:09:07 AM »
I found a used Franchie 20 Ic for 450 What about these ? I'm just trying to get a shotgun for my wife who doesn"t shoot a box of shells a year. It will be for turkeys.
 Charles Daily
 Traditions
  Stoger
  TriStar
Smith& Wesson
  Itcha 51

I have looked at these on the net and can get one for about 300 -400
I really like the franchii but it looks used hard (could the Francheii be converted to screw in chokes) I've only owned 2  shot guns a 20 and a12 I don"t know much about shotguns. But want something light and easy to carry. I looked at a youth model Remington 870 20 ga pump at Wallys but if it's like my 12 it will kick you into next week ! My wife wouldn"t like that.

I'd have to vote for a Remington 870. If all she plans on doing is turkey hunting.

But I'd go ahead and get the Frenchie for yourself at $450 if it's an English stock just be cause.

It doesn"t have an english style stock. Can screw in chokes be added ,its an older gun but nickel and light and easy to swing.

i looked into haveing a shotgun threaded for screw in chokes and the smith said no prob as long as the wall thickness on the barrel was thick enuf. but he wanted about 100 buks or better to do it.its hard to git a shotgun cheap enuf yu can put that much in it and still come out unless its a real KEEPER.

I have a charles daly in 12 semi-auto and it does not kick to bad but harder than 1187. my wife turkey hunts with nova 20 it is a light handling great shooting gun and the recoil is not bad at all. the 870 in a 20 is not a arm breaker but it is harder than a semi-auto. I like the charles daly for the money but have heard good things about stoger 2000.just my opinion

I looked at the Franchi again this afternoon, it was near as good as I thought. So the search goes on.

Countryboy, The Franchi and the Benelli in 20ga are about the lightest semi-auto shotguns your going to find.

Both are recoil operated. Light weight & recoil operated= more recoil than a gas operated gun. For dove loads they are wonderful guns to carry and shoot, but not with turkey loads.

Country Boy,   I don't know which traditions model you are spreaking of - I've had a hunter model over and under in 20 guage for 6-7 years now.  I've only run a thousand or so shells through it but it has been fine, especially for the money.  Weatherby now imports fausti instead of tradtions but I still see them on the net.  I just picked up the sporting clays model O/U (different action) also in 20 ga and am waiting for spring to break.  :)  Good gun hunting for the wife.     Bill

Buy the 870 at wally world. Take it home and have the wife try it. If she likes it your good to go if not return it to wally world for a full refund. Can't go wrong with that deal.

My wife picked out her own shot gun. She picked a Charles Daly 20 ga. OU Mod and impr. Surprizing it is made by the same BC maruco company that made my brother in laws browning.
She bought a vest with the pockets for the gell packs when she is shooting heavy loads.

I don't think they do this. Once the paperwork is done, it's yours.

The Charles Daly semiauto 20 gauge, also available at Walmart for about $316, seems to do pretty good. Light, synthetic (no scratches), 3" capable. Basically the same action as the Remington 11-87.
