Peep sights for Security Six

Happy New Year everyone!

Does anyone know if any company makes peep sights for a Security Six?

My old eyes can't line up those front and rear sights anymore. I shot the gun today and the shots were all over the paper - and off the paper - at 25 yards.

Or maybe a small sight, or red dot? But mainly I want to keep it simple, like a peep sight.

Nope, nobody that I've ever heard of. Yep, handguns aren't for the visually challenged.

I believe the inserts called one ragged hole will fit in your base, Not positive thou I think Midway list them.

I got a second pair of glasses with the right lens optimized for pistol shooting and that works very well. Even better, I have the '"tubeless" red dot type sights on three handguns and they enable me to shoot tighter groups than I have ever fired with a pistol before. I have these mounted over the rear sight location and they add only very little bulk and probably weigh even less than the original steel adjustable rear sight. I have the Burris "Fast-Fire" on an AMT .22 WMR and can hold groups under 2" at fifty yards. I have a DrOptic on a Rossi 6" .357 which groups nearly as well. I have a cheap Chinese copy on my S&W 22A and despite costing less than half as much as the Burris it seems to be holding up well.

I have problems with peep sights on anything. I do not like looking through a hole to find my front sight, I much prefer open sights or a red-dot.

As I am getting older, and my eye are getting worse, the red-dot is the greatest thing going.

The web sight is one ragged hole. Yes they do make em for yoye security six.  Have this sight on my super blackhawk and love it.  Good product well worth the $25.  grew up with peep sights and dont like scopes all that well.  Pay no mind the the rear sight just look thruogh it.  Might take a short time but you will get used to it quickly.

Does the rear sight come off by turning the adjustable sight-in screw?

Is it a drilled tapped hole? I would imagine the rear peep would just screw into the hole, correct?

The red dot is interesting. I wonder how much pounding it would take using full house loads...

Kern  You might try your gun again before you make drastic changes. I've noticed a couple of times now when I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Each time there was some bright sun on the sights and I had let them get a little bit shiny.

That said, if the peeps that ol' blue knows of aren't too expensive and easy to install, I may have to give them a try myself, better late than never.  I've always preferred peeps on my long guns that I don't want a scope on. And, I hate scopes and dot sights on a 6 shooter. I put them on, and a week later they are off again.

bilmac the sight cost $24,99 plus shiping. about $30 total.  I AM NOT MECHANICAL AT ALL. I Had to buy a small set of screwdrivers. $1.99 in one of those cheep discount bins.  I did it in about 4 min. Could cut that time in have now that I've done it.  IF I CAN DO IT ANYONE CAN!!!

Its really just a blade that fits into your standard sight base and no you don't need to change front blades.  oneraggedhole is the web sight I do believe.

I actually have a oneraggedhole sight on my ruger security six and my ruger mk II

I got my set and put the big one on my 4 5/8 Blackhawk and the small one on my 6 incher, you get 2 in the package. Easy to install, and for me it was easy to change over, I think I hit about the same as my open sights, but maybe just a hair faster.  Does anyone know if they are legal in SASS?

I checked the link, which talks about an "aperature" and a "sight blade." By "blade" are they talking about the front sight ramp? If so, it sounds like you need to change the front sight as well.

But some of you guys here say its not so. Can someone clarify?

No, you only replace the little flat piece of steel in the rear sight that has the notch in it.

For bad news Bob, Don't order anything from "One Ragged Hole".  I did last year and paid for the items using Paypal and got burnt.  They'ill take your money but you can't contact them.....
