Contender or Encore?
« on: January 04, 2009, 03:04:33 PM »
Can anybody tell me the main difference between the Contender and the Encore other than the caliber choices?

I have the older style Contender and want to know what advantage the encore has over it ,or the new G2 Contenders.

I will still only shoot mostly pistol calibers through it,223 max.

Thanks
Alan

The Encore is bigger, heavier, stronger, and, the big difference, will handle high pressure cartridges. The Contender, G2 Contender, will not. If you need more info check out TC Arms web site.

The G2 will take all original Contender barrels and is the replacemeent for the original Contender.

The Encore is much larger, and only takes Encore barrels. The Encore take much larger calibers, up to the big rifle magnums.

The new models (G2/Encore) have a simpler trigger mechanism and generally do not have the light, crisp trigger pull the original Contender was know for. The new models do not need to be opened to reset the action.

I have been shooting TC's since the early seventys and still prefer the Contender for pistol duties.  I bought one of the early(four digit frame) Encores and have used it ever since regularly as a muzzle loader, rifle, and shotgun, and yes....ever once in a while.... I put it in pistol configuration and go shootin' and... I also use a Contender carbine some too.  But most of the time it's contender Pistol and Encore long gun.  I know I have a fair amount of company amongest those that have been here awhile.
GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt  ;) ;) :D
