I've used the 139gr. Hornady for years in a 14 incher.  This barrel does not like the lighter slugs as so many others seem to.

139gr. hornady
Winchester brass
CCI 400 primer
26.5gr. H322

Work up to this load as it can be a little hot in some barrels.  With H322 I never work up loads in anything more than .3gr increments as it is a very touchy powder and .5gr increases can prove more than you want.

this sounds like a SILLYWET load to me.The shooters used those heavy slugs on the rams. I use 748 or H322 and 120 grain slugs in my 14" barrel
I chronoed a load of 29.5/w748/cci400-120Horn sp at 1993 average fps .groups were ~half inch/5 shot,3 groups. Scoped & sand bags. Other powders showed higher velocity BUT I had lots of 748 on hand.

If you think 139gr sounds like a sillywet slug, you need to see what I'm using for a short range (under 125yd) hunting round.  160gr mag tips over 25.5gr of H322.

This is the 3rd 7tcu barrel I've owned and unlike the others, this one will not shoot a 120grainer for spit but loves the heavier slugs.  The other 2 wouldn't handle anything but the lighter slugs.

O. Syko,
the post was a 150 grainer.
I use whatever the gun dictates as most accurate, unless it's an illegal bullet. FMJ's are illegal here for hunting, but are more than accurate enough.
I have been known to use such things as a 525 grain bullet on ground hogs thru a 45/70. I even shot a ground hog with 577 nitro express once.
I'm not reccommending the practice and do not routinely do this.I hunt in a fairly populated area and richochets are not welcome in my shooting habits. I select a bullet and cartridge for this area and the game hunted. Deer often go by me unmolested because the angle of shot MIGHT cause a problem. DO NOT TAKE THIS AS A FLAME!
 happy shooting,  jh
