Went to Whittaker Guns
« on: January 04, 2009, 05:38:22 PM »
They had the new SS 45-70 Ultra.  Very nice.  They also had one in 444 Marlin.  The 45-70 was marked as being made in Gardner Mass.  I looked but they did not have a 35 Remington that is apparently in the works.

The 45-70 would have gone home with me, but I took home a Ruger M77 Mk 2 in 7x57 Mauser instead.

Thought someone might be interested.

The 35 Rem Handi is no longer scheduled for production, at least not for 2009, it was canceled due to lack of distributor interest.

Any trip to Owensboro is incomplete without driving SW to Whittakers. They have tons of guns and all long guns are in racks that you are free to fondle them.
Prices are fair but firm!

I dont partake in watering holes anymore, but I did have to park in their parking lot due to Whittaker's lot being full.  People were parked in the grass and everything.  I must say, while I dont typically like crowds it is nice to see dozens of people crowding a gun store.  Husbands had their wives there.  Dads had their sons and daughters there.  There were several dads looking at youth guns with their kids. There were grown men who had their elderly dads with them.

And my dad fussed at me because I went without him!!!  A mistake I will make no more.

I love being able to take my time and really give the guns a good looking at.  They always seem to have new guns I had not heard of yet as well. My wife calls it a man's "Hobby Lobby"!

A little piece of heaven for sure.

I go to whittakers often.  I've bought many guns from them.  They are firm.  You don't haggle the price with that guy.  They do have the best prices around here though.

We went there one time when we were hunting across the river in Indiana.  Great little road trip, though we had one heck of a time getting proper directions from the locals in town.  Guns are on racks, right on the floor, so you can handle them without mindless chatter from a salesman behind a counter...and without craning your neck to see price tags.  Loved it.

All NEF/H&R rifles aside, Whittakers also has the best prices I've ever seen on CZ rifles. It would be very cool to go there in person.

Skunk,

They have loads of CZ rifles on the racks too.  Probably 20 or so.  You can just about find any model/caliber combo you like.
